He also has that great gravel-sounding voice that just sounds like he should be in command. He does not, however, make a real good babysitter. I have liked Diesel ever since I first heard his voice on Iron Giant. While he's kept himself in a real small box, artistically speaking, he always shows incredible potential. I have looked forward to the day when he tries to stretch his artistic legs, and I thought that Disney might be the vehicle to really allow Diesel to prove his comedic chops. Unfortunately, due to a poorly written script, shoddy camera work, and a few cheesy performances, Diesel ends up just looking foolish. The Pacifier is a potentially cool Disney project that puts Diesel in the star role as Lieutenant Wolf, a highly decorated Navy SEAL, who is assigned guard duty for five children whose lives are in danger while their mother is out of the country. While guarding the children Lt. Wolf is tasked with finding a hidden secret called Ghost, a brilliant mathematical pro- gram created and hidden, by their late father. Of course, the Navy SEAL has a difficult, some would say amusing, time dealing with children. Diesel does a good job with what he was given but in the end it's not enough. The Pacifier ends up making Diesel look silly. It is funny, and it is amusing. Many children will find the low-brow humor entertaining, while most adults will find the PG rating annoying. In the end it might be a good Saturday afternoon movie for the kids, but that's about it.
