The Four Wolverines that posted wins in their matches were Tanner Cowan, Mark Blain, Talon Vickers, and Matt Ripplinger. The loss while tough for the Wolverines, proved that they will step up to any challenge no matter what problems may arise (they are competing right now with only a partial roster). Perhaps the biggest challenge that coach Cody Sanderson's squad has faced this year is the the mat problems, as the team has faced an abundance of injuries this year robbing them of some of their best wrestlers for long periods of time. But through it all Sanderson and his team have done their best not to let it affect them. "We had a talk," coach Sanderson said. "They know how I felt about it. I got a group of tough guys out there...they'll bounce back." The team will be home on Thursday for a match against Portland Andy Hunt/NelXNm State. Students and Faculty get into the matches free with their UVSC Top: Tanner Cowan has don his best wrestling in the absence of many key wrestlers. The Utah Valley State women's basketball team ended their eight game losing streak on Thursday with a 37-28 win over Montana State. "We have just been aching for a win. I'm so proud of the kids. It is not fun to get pounded and pounded time after time" said head coach Cathy Nixon. The Wolverines were led by Katie Wilson who scored 11 points and added 11 rebounds for the double-double. Miriam Palkki also had 8 points. UVSC made an effort to slow the game down and use as much of the 30 second clock as possible. "We have given the teams that we have played so many more possessions than we have had. In slowing the ball down it gave us better movement and created good shots for us tonight" said coach Nixon. With-the win the Wolverines improved their record to 2-12. The lady Wolverines return to the court again tonight at 7:05 to take on Eastern Washington. It will be the team's last home game in the month of January, as the team goes on a six game road swing that lands the team back in Orem on Feb. 26. Students get in free with their UVSC ID cards |
