Where are you from? Tooele.Utah. What made you choose to come to UVU? The UVU Dance Team. I wanted to [dance in college] and I was going to audition until I made a team. UVU Dance Team was" my first try-out; I was ecstatic. What has been your favorite UVU class? I have loved all of my communication classes, but my public speaking class had to be one of my favorites because that's when I found something 1 really enjoy doing. How about your favorite UVU professor? Coronado, Calif. I swear, I have spent half my life there and still, every time 1 go back I fall more in love with it. Can you talk a bit about your pageant platform and why you feel it is an important subject? I have chosen prescription drug abuse as my platform because I know it is a prominent, addictive and devastating problem that can be avoided. I am grateful for this opportunity to be in a position where I have a voice to help prevent the destruction that comes to lives. How do you personally feel about pageants? Chris Foster, who taught ethics and values. He made a serious class one of the most fun. He would dress up and perform impressions of the philosophers. Why do you get up in.the morning, or what motivates you to do the things you do? Each day I try to shoot for the best version on me, how I can better myself. I am excited for what the day will bring and what I will learn. I try to remember that the world will tell you who you are until you tell the world, so I get up and tell 'em! What is your guilty pleasure? Michael Jackson. I'm a huge fan. 1 admire When it comes to pageants, you have nothing to Jose. You learn so much about yourself and they teach you attitudes that you will convey for the rest of your life. 1 am so proud to represent this university and all the attributes of empowerment it holds. I'm excited for this coming year and all the incredible opportunities in store. If you could share one piece of advice with your fellow UVU students, what would it be? To accept the unchangeable; it's history. Change the changeable, what you're going to do next, and remove yourself from the unacceptable. Jake Buntjer/UVU Review Students on Parade There were tributes to current pop culture in the form of Lady Gagas by the dozen. Some used the dance to enjoy some nostalgia with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or the Tefetubbies, while others simply reminded us why we love Halloween. We got lots of candy, even if no one really likes Tootsie Rolls. The annual Halloween dance brought out students dressed in costumes ranging from traditional to a bit bizarre.
