Show Monday February 23, 2009 Wolverines get two of three on the road Making headlines McGrady likely done for the season Asst. sports editor The Houston Rockets were supposed to make a run in the Western Conference after acquiring bad-boy Ron Artest during the off-season. That doesn't look to be the case as Tracy McGrady has announced that he will miss the remainder of the season with knee problems that will require microfracture surgery. This after Yao Ming missed the second half of last season, including the playoffs, with injury. Oden sits with bone chip in left knee Portland's number one draft pick two years ago, Greg Oden, has spent more time off the court than on it in his short NBA career. After missing his first season with the Blazers due to microfracture knee surgery, the seven-foot center has been in and out of the lineup this season. His most recent ailment is a bone chip in his left knee. While he isn't suppose to miss much time, the fact that he's so injury prone has to have Blazer fans questioning the pick as Kevin Durant, the number two pick behind Oden, has enjoyed early NBA success. The Wolverines wrapped up their last road trip of the season winning two out of the three games they played. Winning two of three is quite an accomplishment considering the Wolverines have had trouble on the road all season long. The wins give Utah Valley a 4-7 record on the road and a 14-10 overall record on the season. The road trip started in Newark, New Jersey against a lackluster NJIT team who has just one win in the last two seasons. Utah Valley would win 61-40. Ryan Toolson would lead all scorers with 15 and Jordan Swarbrick tied his season and career highs with 13 points. "NJIT came out with a lot of spirit and energy," coach Dick Hunsaker said. "I'm proud of the way we came out and played. This is a long trip, and we played some of "Both teams fought very hard tonight," Hunsaker said. "Both teams were coming off of road trips. This game came down to just a couple of plays at the end. San Jose State made those plays, and we didn' t. I was pleased ' with the way we battled tonight and the effort our team gave." Though the UV defense held them to 40 percent shooting they just could not get their shots to fall shooting 37 percent and 13 percent from behind the arc. Perez, who figures to see much of her time at the designated hitter spot, leads the team with a .538 average through five games. Megan Niemann will also play a key role in the success of the offense as the No. 2 hitter. She is hitting .333 on the year and is 2-for2 in stolen bases. Meghan Woodworth is second on the team in at-bats. She has a .474 on-base percentage. UVU was 17-34 last year, but ended the season by winning five of its last seven games. Now the question is if UVU can start the season with some of that momentum.
