Show Monday • June 30, 2008 Any given Day Before Monday New on DVD Drillbit Taylor, July 1 JaredMagiII[3 Managing editor Well pack my box with five dozen liquor jugs, it was bound to happen eventually. The Owlz game originally scheduled as part of the UVUphoria celebration Monday June, 30, that had to be rescheduled to Sunday, June 29 to accommodate "concert and sound crew setup" for the big fiddle twanging hoedown (see Opinions A6) almost gave UVU the timely prospect of grappling with the complexities of being an actual state school by not completely revoking UVUphoria affiliation from the erstwhile Monday game. According to school employees, word was handed down from college marketing via staff meetings that the now Sunday game was still a part of the festivities just so long as all staff members can be counted upon to strike the word "Sunday" from common usage and henceforth refer to game day as "The Day Before Monday." If this is what must be done so that we can feign maturity then so be it. Here's a list of UVU Review's top ten suggestions in case there is ever a need for any more Sunday-stricken sentences. Unfortunately I learned very little from my parents andflunkedout of my high school Spanish classes, which made it difficult for my co-workers and I to communicate. We got to work immediately by loading several book carts and taking them to the parking lot. We then shrink-wrapped and lifted them into a delivery truck using the loading ramp. The shrink-wrapping was loud and obtrusive to the students studying. The book carts were in fact a great deal heavier than they appeared; most carts required two to three people to lift. Heather, one of the library's circulation supervisors, smiled at my co-worker and me and said, "I hope they're paying you boys a lot. That looks heavy." We worked from early that morning until six that the evening. I! They were unsure of whether they should leave them in the old library or transfer them to the new because some of them had belonged in sections currently in transit. Another concern was that the book carts would fit best outside the library's scanning gate, so we took off the rope. However, some students did not walk through the gate - in spite of a large sign pointing the other way. One student walked through, oblivious on his cell phone then criticized the library aid at the desk for not making a picture on the sign when he was stopped. After the student walked off- continuing to talk on his cell phone - the aid and J looked at the' picture that is, in fact, on the sign and shrugged. UVU Review/Archives How to pull off being a university student Mel Sundquistj^ Life editor In the past, UVSC students were always able to act out and rest on the excuse "It's okay, they're just college students." Well, that era is over, and now it's time for us to collectively evolve into something much more intimidating: university attendees. Here's how: Take your education seriously. UVU is no longer a stepping stone to bigger and better things because it is bigger and better. Now, you can actually graduate a Wolverine, and bring your degree with you to a very successful career. It is no longer necessary to go to another school after graduating here, so treat these years like they, are the last years of formal education you will have. Keep staying up late, but do it with a textbook instead of a group of drunken friends. Sure, universities have great parties, but UVU isn't quite to the point of the fraternity yet. Basically, imagine the stereotypical university student and try to act more like that stereotype. Communicate with your professors. Class sizes may be growing, and the days of the adjunct professor or lecturer may be coming to-an end, but that doesn't mean that your professors SeeHOWTO* 83 t |
