Campus Connection A3 UVU Fight Song Whitney Wagner | News writer Most UVU students could sing BYU's, Notre Dame's or Michigan State's, but many seem ignorant of their own university's fight song. It seems more than likely that a good number of them aren't even aware that UVU has a fight song. The schopl's fight song has actually been around for about 25 years. It was written and composed in 1982 by Clyde D. Sandgren, who also wrote BYU's fight song. Even though the song lyrics have gone through many changes as the school has progressed, the tune has always stayed the same. As UVSC becomes UVU, it is no different. While the words and name of the fight song have changed, the song maintains its traditional tune. A committee made up of students, faculty, staff and community members met to help adapt the song. The committee tried to find lyrics that would feel upbeat and energetic. They also were mindful to incorporate symbols like the school colors and mascot. When all was said and done, the new UVU fight song was renamed "The Fight Song," which has the following lyrics: Stand up and cheer mighty green, We are the proud Wolverines. Strong in battle till the game is done, Till the victory we have won, won, won. Stand up and sing r uvu, ? Our song will ring loud and true.
