Reimagined versions of past films compete for a chance to be the first to unwrap box office gold of the 2• War Worlds Luke Hickman Life Writer 1 3 Batman Begins Charlie and the Chocolate Factory Dark Water 5 When I first heard of this production, I wondered how they could redo a classic. In my book, that's like remaking "The Wizard of Oz" - you just can't do it! You can't recreate the ever famous Oompa Loopas! But they did, and they're good! From the twisted mind of Tim Burton comes his radical vision of the world as Wonka saw it. Ok, so many of us could see this as a project Burton would tackle, but how could it be done successfully? The answer: Johnny Depp. With Johnny Depp anything is possible. Even though the new remake isn't as dark and weird as the original, if you pay attention to the thin details and focus on Wonka's character then you'll definitely see the homage paid to the original. If you pay real close attention, you'll even see a little tribute to a previous Burton/Depp film. Without Nicole Kidman or Will Ferrell, this film would be nothing. If you are. a fan of either, then don't skip out on this one. 9 liTdoftheDead Not everyone knows this, but there are people who enjoy these cheesy zombie movies. I am proud to be one of them. Even though its story is weak, "Land of the Dead" holds the same frowned-upon gratification that some of us look forward to. ABC scraps all evening news to return toT. G.I. Fridays five nights a week. 8 USA Today changing format, covering only local news. 7 Daily Herald builds subscriptions from stake directories. 6 Salt Lake Tribune claims Boyd K. Packer led attempted assassination of S. L. Mayor Rocky Anderson. War of the Worlds (by Jared Leming) I would have to say this movie has been the biggest disappointment of the summer thus far. It's not because the movie was bad, because it wasn't. It's because it just wasn't that good. Visually, the movie is great. The effects are hands down some of the best I've seen. It's too bad the story doesn't match up to the way it looks. Fantastic Four Take my advice on this-just because it's from the Marvel Universe and the same studio to bring us the X Men movies, doesn't mean it is worth watching. With its lack of plot and story, this Fantastic Four isn't doing any good for anyone. For me to say this means a lot: I will never sit through this film again.
