Smith and her helpers. IN PUBLIC IMPROVEMENT S s will always rank as a great Nineteen thirty-eigyear for Provo. More public improvements have been obtained than in any other year of Trovos history. And the past three years - 1936, 37 and 38 mark the greatest era of improvement within our City. Improvements totaling about two million dollars have been added during this short period not including the Deer Creek Project. In this three-yeperiod, Provo City has diaided in the financing of about and rectly sponsored one million dollars worth of public improvements - such improvements as the Post Office, Overpass, Hospital and Schools also total about one million dollars giving us a grand total for all projects of approximately two million dollars in three years. Most of these projects have received generous federal aid. It is easy to see where two millions may be put into additional needed city improvements in the next three years. There is much work left to be done. ht 7 1 I J. P. We must not raise the levy and we ore morally obligated to reduce the Citys debt There is a move now in Utah and other states for cities to share revenues. Last in March, Provo received nearly $10,000 from auto license revenues collected by the 8tate. There is a good prospect that this will be increased. Municipalities are siso asking for fifty percent of the net revenues from the sale of Intoxicating liquors. We should gain nothing to take special revenues from the State if the State is obliged in turn to raise the State levy on ell property to compensate for the lose Is special revenues. Commission Government We should be thankful that Provo has a commission government. It Is generally conceded that the three-ma-n commission is more effective than the large conncils even thongh the small commission may be e little lesa democratic titan the large council where every ward or every voting district has Its representative in the City Hall.
