Subject: the Beaat and the of Revelation?" A, big surprise for you. Welcome. YOUll BARNYARD ... ... HO W DOES IT LOOK Extension Horticulturist Agricultural College By DB. A. STARK A lot of farmers in Utah consider landscape improvement a womans job. The wife should take . care of the flowers and the lawn because the farm keeps the man busy making a living. There is some truth in all this, but then is also another aspect to this problem worth thinking about First we should get the idea out of our system that landscape improvement is merely planting flowers and lawn. The Ant and foremost consideration in any farmstead landscape is the organization of the buildings, corrals, and service drives for vnaniwuim convenience and utility. And right here is where most fanners could spend a little thought to advan. tage. Host of our barnyards are not arranged they just happen. First we need a barn, then we add a shed, then a pig pen, then a chicken coup, etc., etc., until after a few years we have a conglomerate hodge podge, completely lacking in organization. Such a layout often keeps a man busy doing daily chores twice as long as would be necessary with a better arrangement of building and corrals. We carry grain a hundred feet to feed the stock, and haul hay another hundred to get it in the feed rack. We spend a couple of hours chasing down a cow or calf that waded through a rickety fence. Our manure pile la in the middle of a sloppy corral where it cant be hauled out until late spring or early summer. Doors and gates have to be lifted and shoved about because the hinges and fasteners wont work. The hone has a bad leg because he caught himself in a loose board on the manger and we stumble over wagon tongues and miscellaneous junk going about the barnyard. It all is a mess and we know it, yet we do nothing it Already eggs are Sc per donen higher thn last year at thin time, and thia Is only the beginning. As the National Defense program gets under way, eggs and poultry, along with other meat prod ads, will be la la creased rtnmsnfl at the best prices ha several There is still time to fill pour coops with pullets if you hurry.
