Pol it Its George Bahr waa chosen to Utah. Provo, IT North Pint West succeed Ray Davis as chairman matter November 19, 1987 at the poet of the Republican party at n priEntered ae eecond-claii- e mary bold at the Salem Relief office at Provo, Utah, under the Act of March 2. 1878. Society ball Wednesday. Delegates to tbs county convention were nsmed ns follows: Mr. and Mrs. Jimes P. Christenson, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Davis, Mr. and Mrs. George Dabr, Mr. and Mr. Angus Taylor, Mr. and Mr. Hyrum Tiffany, Mr. ana Christensen, Mr. and Mrs. Lynn Cloward, Margaret Courier, Priscilla Christensen, Lillian Curtis. Pishing Alma Christensen, city councilman and member of the Ralnm Lake committee, has outlined n program for the beautification of the grounds nrnund the Lai to provide plrnlc grounds for people who visit the Lake this summer. The Lake Is unexcelled for trout fishing. There nre approximately 12,000 legal alzed trout In Its waters at present and the State xpects to plant from 15,000 to 18.000 more before the season Car Inspections: The State Road Commission insists upon every car in Utah being inspected for mechanical defects prior to June 15 each year. For this puriwse it has set up several hundred official car insect ion stations throughout the state, placing each one under $1000 bond to all car carry out the authorized insjection service to sounds this face of it On the fee. nominal owners at a like a safe and sane act and ought to help greatly to reduce highway accidents. But like many other things, the face does not always tell the story, for we have to look deeper than apitear-ance- s if we see the rid nature of things. The Utah .State Road Commission's regulations, if carried out honestly and thoroughly, must be carried out impartially, and no one but the state itself is qualified to do this' job as it fbould be done. Proof of this is the fact that the Commission itself has employed stool depigeon methods in sending out cars, having known statin various checked to them have inspection fects, ions. and then reporting" that station as having been negligent. As a matter of fact, some 10,000 used cars in the state of Utah are unfit to travel on the highway right now. Who is to believe that these 10,000 tubs, worthless almost, certainly not worth the cost of mechanical overhauling sufficient to pass the inspection tests, will really is any safer after June 15 than they are now? If the State Road Commission is in earnest about these car insiections, there is only one way to get them done do it themselves, without fear and without favor. Then having done it once they should herd any nr every car which travels the highway into the correll and inspect it without notice or warning. This car insectiuii business in Utah is becoming a racket, in which the honest station operator drives customers away from his shop because he will not "pass their tubs. while the dishonest one goes merrily on allowing his friends to operate any old thing which can in any sense of the word be insiiected." Furthermore these car inspections, dope by the road commission itself, should be done free of charge, and at any time throughout the year, without warning. Such checking stations should be established at convenient places along the highway, and nerve as patrol stations as well.
