Klco The Direct Primary Utah has a new law dealing with primary elections, for the selection of candidates for the Legislature and other offices in state, district, and county elections. It is called the direct primary law, and is democratic in ideal and practice. Will it be a success? Have the people sufficient interest in government affairs to make this innovation in Utah more flexible to the will of the mount to more than $11,000,000 there is time for an awakening among its citizens, regardless of the religious questions involved. Likewise, in a state where the vast natural resources are so woefully exploited or neglected, as the water, power, and other possibilities here seem to be, it is high time we rose up en masse and claimed for our own use the tremendous economic forces within our own state. The' meeting recently of the governors of the states of the Upper Basin of the Colorado river, called in an effort to protect these resources, is a belated effort to do something about it. Utah is one of the richest states in the Union, but its wealth is flowing out and away from us, along with its manhood, which finds opportunity in every other state more readily, it seems, than in their own Utah, and it is all because we have not retained unto Utah what belongs to us. Is this a political question, or is it just another example of lying down on the job while the other fellow does our thinking for us? At any rate, we are here in this glorious land, with every cultural and economic advantage possible unto us, with our laws and regulations subject to our own control, and we have ourselves to blame if we do not prove to the world that a government by the people, is also for the people, and that it is the most permanent form of government in the world today. Our direct primary law is designed to give us that opportunity to prove that we can make a success of our Events of the Week CLEAN UP Clean Up order have from the Junior gone forth Chamber of Commerce to prepare for tourists and other visitors In Utah suiting April 11 and finishing AprU II, and to be known as CLEAN UP WEEK.
