Coaueltteee Appointed and approved at the an: meeting Film, Radio and Magaslnaa: chairman; Rumuaan, Mn. Karl Young, Mra. Henry Taylor, Mra. Wilmer Allan, Mn. Clifton Talboe. I. Personality Culdaaee: Mra. O. D. Hansen, chairman; Russell Morteaaon, J. Ernest Fraadam, 1. Utahs Problems drant (Continued from Page One) nishes, japans, paints insulation, etc. and for which we are forced to spend our money hi inverse proportion to our needs. But manufacturing is tied up with power and transportation costs, and already Governor Maw has given us an inkling of how stiff the fight will be to gain control of these facilities, for they are the factors which dominate our home industry. Surely Utah needs to back our governor, for he faces the fight of his life to make any headway against the "power octopus", and to convince the Federal authorities of the discriminations For many years .. against Utah in transportation costs. we have been "paying through the nose" both going and coming, but this condition is at the same time a reflection upon our own lack of cooperation, thrift and industry. The Governors new department is also termed "Publicity" which is evidently directed toward a proper interpretation of the scenic values, and recreational port unities of this state, both at home and over the nation. It is reported that Idaho collects an average of 947.62 from each tourist which enters the state, as Utahs revenue is less than $40. Nevada gets $135 average, and Wyoming $67.87. these figures must have spurred Governor Maw forward in his determination to ereate this new department. Another factor of utmost importance in this organisation program is that of education. Utah can no longer afford the academic type of schooling which has so long dominated this state. The time has come when we must not only "educate" our youth, but we must "train them also. The annual loss, both financially and in leadership, is too great to be allowed to continue. Loss of 3,000 youth to this state yearly not only loses leadership which is making good all over the nation, but out of our community, never to be returned, our investment of thousands of dollars which have been Vent for their education here. Our entire educational program must be adapted to our needs, so that thfeae manufacturing and industrial enterprixss may not be farced to locate elsewhere be- -' cause we lack the personnel to operate them. Utah must start at the bottom of the ladder, and rung by rung, we must rebuild our economy, and reestablish ourselves as a unit, in the great family of states which form this great land of America. .
