Collins Manager ! That the Record May be Clear- - Ft. Collin, Oct. 28, Before another issue of the Utah Valley News, the Municipal election will have decided at long last the Power Question in Provo, Regardless of what that decision may be, certain facts need to be set down in permanent form that the record for the future may be clear. First of all, it should be known that this paper has offered its facilities to BOTH sides of the controversy, as readily to the Utah Power and Light company as to the City administration. Many have questioned our stand in this matter because dnly the City arguments have usually appeared, unless as in the recent public debate, our reporter told the story as it occurred. But most of the material appearing has been prepared by Mayor Mark Anderson or some other city official, whereas Manager George Ellerbeck of the U. P. & L. company, and Jacob Coleman, representative of the Company, have refused to accept any such invitation. Not only have they refused to accept the Utah Valley News offer, but they have, from the very beginning of the controversy, cut us off at the pockets, refusing all advertising to this paper, and at the same time increasing their appropriations to other mediums. The Power company, however, has gone further than that. They have, through the efforts of Mr. Coleman, threatened scores of merchants and business men along Provos business front, who have been advertisers in this paper, with loss of Power company business if they continued to advertise in the ytah Valley News. It does not take much imagination to see the picture which would have been painted about the Power situation here had the Utah Valley News been put out of business. Some notable exceptions to the above exist W. R. Butler, a friend of the Power company, is the only Power backer who has had the grace to write his view point and present it to this paper for publication. Mr. Ellerbeck refused. Mr. Moffit refused. Mr. Coleman spurned us. We deeply appreciate Mr. Butlers fairness, as well as his sincerity. We have nothing but praise for a man whose convictions lead him along a certain path, if he has courage enough to follow his convictions. Frank J. Earl, president of the Chamber of Commerce, and Allen D. Johnson, manager of Lumber, so far as we remember, are the only other men in Provo, backing the Power company, who have had the courtesy and grace to come into our office and present their views, giving their reasons. We respect their opinions, and agree in many respects with their points of view, but even they refused to put their thoughts in writing for publication. Naturally we could not do so, but had they spoken from a public platform on the same subject we could readily have given publicity to their 1ISI. 13 I1 71 Trade threats. or Ralphs Radio & Appliance COMPLETE RADIO SERVICE Also experts for 54? tii 10I16 nsrt 0. 0 67? We have welcomed their contributions, because their points of view were vitally interesting to every citizen of this community. They are the official representatives of the people. Thy had been elected to do a certain job. It was not our business to obstruct them or to hinder their work, or in any way to frustrate the will of the people. Now, to our readers, we say, we have NOT editorialized on the Power Question. We have used this paper for the benefit of all the people, in so far as it could be used. That some people did not receive such benefit, is entirely their own fault. We have suffered considerable loss of business through doing this, but thankfully most business men could not be frightened by Mr. Colemans Tri-sta- te arguments. On the other hand Mayor Anderson and every city Colo., Honorkble Hark Anderson, Mayor Provo, Utah Dear Mr. Aaderaon: I have been analyslns your power plant capacity at Provo tor tome little time and comparins it on a population baaia with other municipal plant now opera-tin- s. You have more watte installed capacity per capita than we have in Fort Collins. For your information and that of your eitliena, I wish to atata that I feel that two units of 2.000 KW capacity will be ample for your uae at thla time. . With two new unite of that capacity, compared with our Installation at Fort Collins, yon could go oh the line for peaks during the winter months up to 4800 to 6000 KW as yon have ample eoollng water and during the winter months It would be easy to keep the machines cool and as long as they are kept cool; yon can carry more than the name plate capacity on -- P either machine or both.
