Glory. ?lm Llvuiy Uulrnpnlll bf tli. North Entl While we hear of schemes of progress iiud enterprise on every hand .in Utah, Springvillo is not going to sleep, but in every respect she is keeping pace with the onward inarch of the day. Within the last mouth a doctor, tailor itml watchmaker Lave located in the thriving city. In the mean while too Mr. Whitehead's woolen mills liae added new machinery and buildings iintil their capacity is now c'liiul to about one third of that of the Provo woolcu mills. Mr. Whitehead is now preparing to run all winter and tiud.s a reaily sale for all the woolen goods he can produce at figures which insure continued prosperity ami to his beneficent growth enterprise. Hclow the present location of the Spriugvillc wnllvii mills is another line mill power also owned by Mr. Whitehead where in time another mill of some sort is almost sure to he V. e believe located. this property could be purchased at a reasonable liguro by any one or any linn who would utilizu it for manufacturing purposes. Here is a rare chance for capital. This mill power is immediately adjacent to the 11 io Grande Western llailway and could not be surpassed. The stream is large even in a dry season and is considered altogether one of the best water powers in Utah territory. Considering the size of the city and the times, Spriugvillc lias added more new buildings to the number of her comfortable dwelli g houses than any neighboring city this season perhaps. In the way of general improvements too, she is keeping up with the progress of the times In line style. A system of water works which the city has under contemplation would give her a great advantage and place her on a footing to compete for investors even with Provo herself. A dreamer who looks forward into the horoscope of futurity ami believes that lie forcasts somewhat of the greatness of events, says that the time will come when Provo amt Springville practically will be as one city with nothing but an artificial boundary line to determine where the one place begins and the other terminates. Surely it requires no great stretch of imagination to foresee the day when the road between Springville ami Provo will be cniluded with grand residences, factories and mills and jecome a kind of thoroughfare for traffic and carriage riding. Hut such changes cannot be brought about in a day, although they can be greatly hastened by the enterprise of citizens in pushing forward every public improvement and encouraging all Chat promises to add to the growth and irosperity of the city and adjacent country. We understand that the citizens of Springville will establish a bunk before a great while. This is an institution needed for the convenience of commerce there; for Springrille is preHer eminently a business place. merchants are alive to the advantages of enterprising business methods. While other cities of considerable population in Utah county cling in a e measure to the methods of y goiie-bdays and rarely call the agency of the press into service to advertise, and push the bark of .trade far mil into adjacent avenues, Springville merchants are not so neglectful. They recognise the .virtue of printer's ink and are utilizing it advantageously to themselves. and the community. .fcpriugvffle real estate Is good Several sales property to invest in. huveqcently been made and others are bgriigyiegoiiated now. Jackson lu American Fork, a representative of The Gazette at hist found him behind the counter for once. IIu gives most of his attention to outside busines ami il is not always by any menus that he is to be found in his store. Mr. Jack-so- n is one of the imlepcnduul solid ineu who make American Fork their linmu and take pleasure In imparling such information us reporters are always in quest of. From him we learned of the death of .Sister Lee, wife of Edward Lee, the well known painter of the place. Her demise Friday last and the funeral took the place Sunday following. The services were conducted at the church. Among the speakers were Thomas Barrett, Samuel Wagstaff and Ilisliop Halliday. .Superintendent Cutler of the linstitutlon has resigned. Ilis health has been bad for some time but nevertheless' his resignation was not expected. O. II. Hunter, the sheepman, has succeeded to the suprintemlency. It Is said that a very worthy able young Provo gentleman is about to capture the hand and heart of one of the most fair amt estimable young ladies of American Fork. The nuptials will be celebrated at an early day. Mayor ltobinson informs us that about twenty men will commence work on the natural reservoirs in the mountains with a view of storing up water for use during the next season. The well boring machinery ordered by the city will arrive soon and an attempt will be made to get artesian water on Main Street. In spite of the fact that the foolhardy competition of Salt Luke Hour mills and dealers has run down the price of Hour so that there is at present hardly any outside market for Hour, still the American Fork mills continue to grind away. James Cliipmau is doing a very large business as usual. A large portion of his custom comes directly or indirectly from the mining camps at llingiiam and up towards Park City. This class of trade is not affected by the small crops iu the least and is very steadv and valuable. Tlie fruit crop is nut up to the usual standard here this year, but there will be enough of everything for home consumption. Ail Excellent Invention for Snvlnp Seed of Short Lucero. The lucern seed crop promises to be the largest ever gathered in Utah county by all odds, and if prices keep up, lots of wealth will be brought into i.lie county asthe returns of this product alone. A great deal of the seed lucent this year Is very short and could not be saved at all had it not been fur a complete little invention which we are pleased to announce to our readers and which works like a charm. Tlie Inventor is Mr. Freeman E. Tanner, of payson, who describes bis useful invention and gives directions for its aplicalion as follows: Put a platform made of sheet Iron on a front cut mower. Hore three holes in the knife bar and bolt the sheet iron under tlie knife liar. Make a rim around the sheet-iro- n three inches high. Thejieed can be raked off the same as from the old fashioned rea pers. About a ton of choice fruit embracing grapes, peaches, plums ami pears is being shipped each day from Pleasant Grove to Salt Lake. Although some individuals lost a greater part of tlieii;, fruit crop this season from drough, all the orchards anil that secured water have produced an excellent crop. We noticed the finest apples in Pleasant Drove that we liaye seen anywhere In Utah this year; also some line pears. The people of the city have taken hold of the matter of the wter supply iu real earnest. A company is being organized to make a tunnel through the great mountain hack of the city to or lake an immense natural there uliich is led by eternal snow which never disappears. This is a grand enterprise for Pleasant Drove, and if consummated speedily as we are assured will lo the ease, will place the citizens iu tlie foremost rank of progress, ami ensure an abundant supply of water in the future. llie business men of the place report a good. condition of trade which is steadily increasing all around.
