Let the teachings of the Bible and the order and Tule of the Gospel be carried out among high and low, small and great. It is estimated that the delightful trip to the great Salt Lake resort took fully $.100 cash out of general circulation iu Pay son, and us is the ease after a circus, t lie ldoBo change lias been scarcer than ever. This lias set some of the wise men of Payson to calculating. One of them figures like this. They assume that it is fair to estimate that when excursions are worked up as they have been this year at least 600 exc'.rs?oiits will visit the Salt Lakc resorts fi.Jhi each of the Iavson. following places, narsVifly: Spanisli Fork, SpringvJe, Pleasant Grove, American Fork anil , ".00: in all from these places,' while Provo will add 1000 more, making a grand total of 4000. Now conceding that each. of these excursionists' will spend in railway fare and for incidentals at Garfield $2.50 npeice, we have an aggregate. of $10,000.00 m cash taken from circulation and front the means of Utah vsjlley in one season, and permanently., removed' from use in the business oflhis county. Business men will readily comprehend what a considerable drawback f'lis must necessarily be to business rt this region. It is understood that these excursions to Garfield this seasn. have all been practically under one and the same control, anil that they have been arranged and supported in the interest of the tabernacle , fund mid other highly worthy objcc-s- , but tin ; public is not in form ul what proportion of this eoniparilively vast expenditure goes to these worthy purposes. Xo doubt that a great many have patronized these excursions witli the idea that they wen thereby aiding the several commendable charities, who would hardly think they had been wise if they :'!&. dil discover that a mere bagotilic of their excursion had gone to aid the said charities. And they would feel inclined to pay their donations direct icreaftcr to the objects they sought to support. Xowout of door excursions are recognized ns healthful and even necessary recreations, bill we have near at hand on the shore of our own Utah lake, a n timber of resorts tint with reasonable home patronage would be made quite as attractive as Garfield It would cost.least to make these home resorts places .of popular rendczvuos and mjruver,'t,Xf?epi a mere trifle for railway fare, the money expended would he kept rigid among the people ami immediately put into circulation for the general benefit of merchants and cverhoi!y iu Utah Gounty. A d word to the wise ir. sutliciMit. with other seasons, this lias been a very hard one fur the people of Utah' Coupty generally and the extra draft occassioueil ly these excursions abroad is liable to make the situation more oppressive than it would otherwise have been. It is reported that several new residences will be built iu ' Iayson this fall. T. I). Clark lias sold his homestead in Payson to a gentleman of Spring Lake. A lot that he owned south of Wbrsencroft's tin and liar;, ware establishment lias passed into the hands of Orrewell Simons Jr. anil another fine lot adjoining I)r. Swan's is offered at a bargain. Mr. Hough, the Presbyterian minister, lias returned from the east and is once more In charge of the affairs of liis congregation so well cared for by Mrs. Sullivan during his absence. Messrs Wilson andShuler are running a first class meat market in Payson anil handling considerable grain and produce incidentally. Many of the business men of tlio place are clamoring for more life anil enterprise and declare that Payson must do something decided and pronounced for herself or she will literally dry up, but no combined movement for the aggrandisment of the city is undertaken and until a united move of some sort is made with perseverence and determination, no good results arc likely to accrue as desired. Once in a while an old resident of the place can be found who with unwavering faith predicts, that Payson will yet more than hold her own, and that yet Utah county will lie divided anil Pay-so- n will be the county seat of a new county. But these hopeful citizens are now few and far between. People with means are slow to invest in anything like public Improvement or a great general enterprise prompted by far seeing public spirit. Petty jealousies and conflicting interests occasion a source of weakness sometimes and in the mean while by a more united impulse other cities are drawing capital and marching omvanl. Messrs. Wiinmor and Xebeker, the proprietors of the new livery stables have put a capacious and elegant omnibus on tlio roail between the depot nnd town to accommodate the traveling public.
