MYTON, ATTORNEY-AT-LA- W To the Liberal Ladies of Provo is due the initiation of one of the most successful! and happy distinctively Liberal social events that ever took place hi Provo or Utah Valley, namely; the picnic given last Friday under their direction at the Lake Shore The committee who had charge of Hie matter consisted of Mrs. Jndge Ke-so- J. rt. Junes, Mrs. U. 3. Ilines, Mi's. Shores ludgeSaxey, Mrs. Dr. 1). V-- and Mrs. Beu. Bachman, Sr. The purpose of the picnic was to bring all the Liberal families of Provo aid enable the old settlers to become acquainted with the new settler Lib era Is. This happy idea originated, we believe, with Mrs. Judge," J. D. Jones and the festive excursion not ouly answered the purpose for which it was designed hut resulted in a most em phatic social success. All the leading Liberal ladies of Provo and many of the gentlemen also as well as Liberals from many others settlements in Utah County to the number of three or four hundred gathered at the Lake. Invitations had been sent to Governor Thomas and the .Utah Commission but owing to pressure of business these gentlemen were unable to attend and each sent letters of regret because of their enforced absence. Among the guests present from some distance were Mr. and Mrs. Hugh, M. Dougall and their charming daughter Killy, Miss Groesbeck, Mr. and Mrs. Don Huntington and Mr. and Mrs. David Clark, of Springville, Mrs. Dr. Campbell, of P, V. Junction, and Mrs. Dr. Gage, of Salt Lake Citv, who is visiting with Mrs. J. D. Jones. American Fork and nearly every settlement in the County was represented. The Provo Silver BamTwere engaged for the. day; ami provided excellent music as usual. The Street Car Company had placed their line at the service of the picnic party. Not only Liberals but several members of the People's party, also At the joined in the entertainment. Lake the merry throng indulged in dancing and social converse. Chief Engineer Moore of the projected U. X. and C. R. R. kindly placed - bis steam launch at the disposal of the picnicers. At noon tables were spread reaching more than once and a half accroes the large pavilion. Choice viands and the most trothsome as well as the most substantial delicacies were served in profusion with exquisite good taste, demonstrating that the Liberal ladies are at least the most accomplished judges of what constitutes a delicious banquet. Everyone was pleasand social nothing occurred to antly mar the perfect felicity of except that at about 5 or 6 o'clock when everybody wanted to return the motor of the R. R. Co. was purposely kept waiting nearly two hours at the Depot for the expected arrival of a dozen or so n embers or the Boat Club returning from Salt Lake. The delay at such an hour was so unreasonable and unexpected that many thought that the motor had given out and some started to return on foot. After tbe Street Car Company bad placed their line at the disposal of the picniceni this was considered by them as very discourteous and entirely without excuse. to-getl- ier, .
