Then there was the absence of the leaders. But the party went along in great shape. Everybody in the overflow crowd was well pleased with the evening. The evening was a success, a distinct success. But the Democratic party leaders should get wise to one thing. That is the Democratic party aa represented by the rank and file are demanding energy and leadership this year and will get it There is a lot of pent-u- p energy in the party which is going to find an expression and it is up to the party leaders to guide it. If the party leaders do not gude it these said party leaders are going to find themselves run over and limping along in the wake of the parade rather than in the van. There may have been legitimate excuses for the absence of the leaders Monday night. It might just have been an unfortunate coincidence that bo many were missing at the same time But the thing for them to remember is that the Democratic donkey is at the post and if the leaders want to ride the mount to victory they had better climb aboard. There is yet a month of ideal weather for an outing. Is the Democratic party going to have one this year? The state committee has considered one. but the matter has not been pushed. The state convention is close at hand But after the state convention there will be some two weeks before the county convention. A get together at Saltair would help a lot. One person has suggested that the county convention itself be held at Saltair. The convention romes September 8, after the regular season closes. The Democrats would have the place to themselves and the weather should be good at that time. Anyway. tVs members of the party of Salt Lake county, at least should get together before the hard campaign starts. THE JUDICIAL CONVENTION. The Third Judicial District will have its first taste of 1928 politics Saturday afternoon at two oclock n the city and county building of Salt Lake City. The delegates can not he too discriminating. The judiciary has the final say in all things political, and the surest way to undermine democracy is to contaminate the judiciary. ,The Democrats have any number of good men who can fill any judicia office in the state- There are offices to be filled which should be filled with men of intelligence, poise, judgment and vigor. There are many Democrats .who have all those requirements. Let the delegates look over the field closely Let them realize the importance of the bench and the bar and then let them put up their best men. REPUBLICANS CARRY TORY IDEA. The Republican party history Indicates that tha Tory Idea In government prevails with almost perfect consistence from Alexander Hamilton, tha patron saint of tha party to that gentleman in public life today who la heralded by hla as tha greatest treasurer the United States has known since party Alexander Hamilton." Alexander Hamilton said, wo will establish here a government of aristocrats a gentleman's government: President Harding said, "I will gather around a government of the bent minds; . and In between these perfect exponents of tha Tory idea In government there is plenty of evidence to Indicate that tha emphasis la placed differently In those three teat places People.
