TIME All of us take pride in the continuing growth of the entire Salt Lake area. Our cities and towns are expanding, new residential sections are being developed, business activity is increasing. Along with this growth is another expansion: the needs of more people for recreation, health and welfare services. Many of these are cared for through governmental health and welfare assistance, in which our County departments play a big part. But there is a vast need beyond this that depends on the volunteer services. This is the field represented by the United Fund, and includes the agencies who contribute so much to the wellbeing of our Great Salt Lake area. All Americans Fared Better Administration yields indisputable evidence that this era in the history of the Republican Party lias done far more to better the lot of 168,000,000 Americans than any that has preceded it in tyenty years. - Despite baseless inaccuracies and contrary to unfounded distortion of facts, it can clearly be shown that, under the inspired leadership of Dwight D. Eisenhower, the American people have fared far better as a result of the sympathetic interest of a considerate government than they did from the irresponsible programs of the five preceding administra-- . free-spcnd- ng tions. Taxation was the number one subject. The committee makes specific and heartwarming recommendations. Among them are (1) that taxes imposed on business corporations be modified by reducing the tax rate from 30 per cent to 20 per cent on incomes up to $25,000; (2) that business be given the right to follow the same accelerated depreciation formula on used as well as new property and equipment; (3) that corporations with as few as ten stockholders be given the privilege of electing to be taxed as partnerships. In 1955 the Eisenhower Administration made over $7 billion in home loans, nearly three times the $2.7 billion 1952 VA-insure- d level. Despite the difficult transition to a peace-tim- e economy, our national income and output are at record highs with individual income, left after payments of taxes, at the highest it has ever' been. To particularize this assertion we have only to scan the record established by such grass roots assisting agencies as the Small Business Administration, the Rural Development Program mortA record construction of nearly of the U. No needful segment of our national economy has been neglected in the Republican search for ways of raising living standards and improving living conditions durng the frst Eisenhower term. Human welfare will receive the same sympathetic interest during a second Eisenhower term. VaaiTGOsUDCsCi Crippled children, mental health these are only a few of the 28 United Fund services. We cannot have a truly happy and healthy community without these services. We are grateful to them, and particularly that through the single campaign of United Fund they are maintained without constantly encroaching on our time through multiple solicitation. The Salt Lake County Commission wholeheartedly endorses and support the United Fund, and ackes that you help those who need throught the United Fund. In the humane field of medical research the Eisenhower Administration has attained a new high by making available $113 million in 1955 as compared to $73 million in 1952.
