Show Pc January 26 2 The adage “It’s a dog’s life” loses a lot of its traction when it is said in reference to a dog that resides iii Logan This is especially true if this unfortunate dog is lost and later picked up by the Logan City Dog Cat- Executive council cher Tuition abolition? five-da- y minimum reprieve before dogs are put away Logan only keeps its condemned dogs for a minimum Qf three — days errrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr by Herm Olsen When asked why Logan only keeps its lost animals for three days instead of the standard five a local commissioner stated that if anybody really wanted to find his lost pet he would have no trouble finding their misplaced animal in three days I don’t think this is true For example you lose your '" dog on Monday afternoon He sleeps outside in a doghouse and you don’t look for him till the next day when you come home from school He is not there so you expect him to be back sometime that night The next day you look without success for your lost friend before you go to school Still no luck When you coirhome from school a more thorough yet still unsuccessful search is conducted At last you decide to put an ad in the paper The ad comes out Thursday afternoon Friday afternoon you get a call from a person a few blocks away He tells you that he saw the dog catcher apprehend your dog Monday afternoon With excitement and a moment’s sigh of relief you call up the dog catcher only to find that your dog was put away early that morning Sound unrealistic? There is more than one Logan canine that wishes it was In response to a story such as this you might say (as : one city commissioner did) “If he had had a license we would have returned him in no time at alb” Is it the dog’s fault his master forgot to put on his collar? Hell no! If you want to penalize someone penalize the owner of the dog But don’t take away two precious days of life of the dog’s life just because some master forgot to put on Fido’s collar One remedy which Logan City is investigating is building an animal shelter While this is a good plan something needs to be done now There are a lot of concerned dog owners (not to mention dogs) who want something done now not next year And believe me “Their bite will be worse than Last year during the election campaign concern was expressed about the inequalities of tuition and a desire to change them was voiced Despite efforts of the Executive Council this year (LaMar Frandsen Election — Legislator out-of-sta- changng all over the country Suits filed by students at the University of New Mexico and the University of Colorado have te in federal court ruling unconstitutional requred students to be for one year before if they were to avoid status at anytime their academic careers during succeeded decisions laws that residents enrolling Luncheon) our archaic laws stand unchanged All is not lost however The US Supreme Court has agreed to rule on a Connecticut state law concerning the jconstitutionality tuition of to the National According Student Lobby Legislative ReDort the original case was brought by two women students One was charged tuition after marrying a lifelong non-reside- - " resident and establishing her own residency The other after becoming an instate resident was charged fees Evidently the impact of' this state statute was “once a always a non-reside- non-reside- te nt of fortune registration out-of-sta- te non-residen- t” The winds voter that established residency for tuition and other purposes The US Supreme Court has struck down residence requirements for voter registration State colleges and universities million stand to lose $200-30- 0 fees if the dollars in court rules against could be tuition This money-los- s offset by either the good fairy in the sky increased appropriations from state legislators or resident students Every silverlining it seems has a cloud out-of-sta- te Connecticut nt According to NSL report a Kansas court last winter found nt out-of-sta- ! non-reside- are “Irankly Speaking11 nt by Phil Frank their bark” Barry Willis Managing Editor WHAT KEAS3MS SEEKING A DEGREE w wu hanc HUSBANDRV?' international ad: Sandhi Umthongkul aatortoinment ad: Jody Bwntett opinion editor: Lucia Thomas orts ad Hoc Mika Patcben photo ad tears: Tam Cos wail nows odHors: Brant Harfcor Pat Bararriy environment ad: Bill Davis art editor: Colleen Ritey toff ad: R Bruce Fleming Feature ad: Winona Powers editorial asst: Jedeane Albright Tony CoiUs Dan SoMteo rblketia Btrotui Ssett WeRs "Ttv'-i- n unu Mery V Uaivany of tea lOtrlil wtef tea Money Moorhen Bonnie Randall - it-iiV'- ba oMkaW by tea PMHteirf CrtMtdSeig Steve Leggett cteculatten mod am4 tema writer wMi roue r iha ' of St it oate Web State ama tea te rnbno OnOMMOPPMONI am aalalf team al tea editorial board ICorel Hornier Kristy Larson Chris Larson Isaac Martin tovsSoew POIICT tea — r Susan Arrington David Oriffuh footer writers 973 editorial comment at- While most towns and nearly all states have a 1 ’?2aas TlS 7T 1 fS’itt OMW Oawoaw at tea teteal'i iag tee ochool year bv I WverstoCeoter rar 3 1 S baainao eCtee UofeenBy Mer Newt mad Journal Brigham CNy Mloo Lagoa (Hah B4S21 — — |
