Show STUDENT LIFE 220 A pleasing feature of the decorations was the pretty screen so arranged as to oartly conceal the orchestra The Doso girls are particularly fortunate in their Japanese proclivities and these were made the most of in the decorations of April first Thatcher orchestra was in attendance and furnished ' as usual excellent music The refreshments were unsurpassed both in quality and service two very pleasing booths having been arranged 'from which the guests were served There were about three hundred people present and no one failed to enjoy the results of Doso’s efforts M isses Belle Pratt Loa Roberts Frances Smith and Florence Dee came to Logan to be present at the occasion ball Ar s Kerr's Deception On Tuesday May 16 the residence of President Kerr was the scene of a very pretty reception given by Mrs Kerr to her many friends The house was beautifully decorated with flowers and ferns and in the dining room pennants of different colleges were conspicuous During the afternoon about two hundred fifty friends called and spent the time in pleasant conversation Dainty refreshments were served The ladies who assisted Mrs Kerr in receiving were: Mesdames P A Yoder E V Robinson B F Riter Caine S V Jr G Preston Jr V John T Thatcher W B Langton J A Bexell L A Ostien James Dryden M iss Wyant Cook and Debate Oiir debate with the B Y College on the evening of March 30 resulted in a victory for B YC R O Porter and T L Kearns of U A C argued for the affirmative of an educational restriction on immigration Lowell Merrill and Alma Erickson of B Y C argued the negative Porter opened with a strong and well presented argument He described the evils resulting from the inadequacy of our present immigration laws and maintained that new legislation was imperative and would be most effective if prompted by the principle included in the affirmative of the question Porter did exceptionally well for a man of his debating experience and training in English He is now in his second year at the college The first argument for the negative was ably presented bv Merrill of B Y C Merrill’s forcefulness and enthusiasm are strong points and he had them combined with a goodly array of logic He showed clearly the benefits our country has derived through the present system of immigration and pointed out that our future progress which will require the labor of more men than |
