SSSuatSEj-- s £T9ittiBS38lPii SUMMER SESSION- BULLETIN - UTAH STATE AGRICULTURAL COLLEGE NUMBER FIVE LOGAN UTAH JULY 6 1937 VOLUME XXXVII Dr McCollum Nutritionist to Lecture Here This Week Dr E V McCollum internationally known authority on nutrition will be- gin his series of lectures in the college auditorium this morning at 11:30 He will lecture each morning of this week On Tuesday Wednesday and Thursday afternoons from 3:00 to 4:15 in the Engineering Auditorium Dr McCollum will give special conferences on nutrition Dr McCollum became a pioneer in the field of Vitamin D when he recognized the vitamin in 1921 He has been closely associated with research in this fielld since that time He has been associated with many prominent universities in the country and at the present time is a member of the advisory board of the National Dairy council He was a member on vitamin standards in 1931 and a member of the international committee on nutrition League of Nations in 1935 “Fly Away Home” To Be Presented This Wednesday com“Fly Away Home” a three-aedy drama by Dorothy Bennett and Irving White has been chosen by Floyd Morgan director as the 1937 Summer Session play The performance will be presented Wednesday evening at 8:30 in the auditorium Summer Session faculty members and guests students and partners are invited to attend Tickets be free of charge and may be secured at the Secretary’s office Tuesday and Wednesday The play centers around highly dract s matic situations concerning a husband and wife who have been separated for twelve years but have never been divorced Two children a boy and a girl complicate matters when the parents meet upon agreement to make plans for the divorce The play depicts a conflict between the educational and practical sides of life It is decidedly modem in expression action and costuming An excellent cast has been chosen to portray the characters in the play The cast members are as follows in order of appearance: Harmer Masters Bob Welti Buff Masters Patsie Nelson Mauvia Edson Linda Masters Gorgas Paulson Corey Masters Penny Tinka Collingsby Johnny Heming James Masters Armand Sloan Maria Gabriel Nan Masters - Gay Wangsguard Dorothy Quinney Reed Garff Harold Ashman Grant Redford Dora Cook Walter Gardner Marie Cooley Travel Talk On Alaska This Evening Mr Edgar C Raine world-wid- e authority on Alaska will present a travel talk in the college auditorium this evening at 7:45 as a special feature of the Summer Session He will visit anthe college during his twenty-thir- d nual tour of the United States Mr Raine will present a travalogue entitled “The Land of the Midnight Sun” in natural colors of Alaska the frontier wonderland of the world Hav-in- a resided in and traveled extensively through the territory of Alaska during the past thirty-thre- e years and commanding an understanding of the lure of the north he has an extensive fund of information in regard to this particular part of the country Mr Raine packed an outfit over the famous Chil-co- tt Pass in 1897 during the stampede to the Klondike Faculty members students and townspeople are invited to attend this special program NOTED PHYSICIST TO OFFER EXCEPTIONAL LECTURES Dr Ernest O Laurence professor E Following the close of the regular Summer Session an intersession beginning July 19 and concluding on August 13 will be conducted The classes to be given during this term are listed in the regular Summer Session bulletin which can be obtained at the College Public Relations Department The classes scheduled will be given if five students register Any regularly scheduled catalog class will also be given if ten students apply It is thought that this organization of the intersession course will be much more satisfactory than the policy followed in former years William Douglas Will Give Recital Mr Wiliam Douglas will give a violin recital Monday July 12 at 8:15 in the Women’s Lounge of the Commons Building Everyone is invited to attend this recital Mr Douglas a young Utahan who has recently graduated from the Boston Conservatory of Music has established an excellent reputation both locally and in the East as a concert violinist He expects to return to the East this fall for various concert engagements in addition to further study Only One Week Left to Make Reservations Scientific Expedition There is only one week left in which to make reservations for the Scenic and Scientific Expedition which will begin immediately following the close of the Summer Session and only a few reservations left to make This trip is an unusual opportunity to see the scenic wonders of the Southwest No other tripCould be planned to include more of the major scenic marvels of Utah and Arizona Every principal point of interest in the region from gorgeous Bryce Cnyon to that mighty marvel of engineering Boulder Dam is included Information about this unusual expedition may be obtained from Dr James H Linford's office Room Ml 75 Eminent Political Scientist of Italy to Lecture Here Dr Luigi Villari eminent political scientist of Italy will deliver two lectures next week at least one of which will be held on Tuesday evening and the other one Wednesday Further details will be announced later Dr Villari will discuss the present facist state in Italy and the development of the organization that is taking place there All Summer Session faculty students and townspeople are invited to attend of physics and director of the radiation laboratory of physics at the University of California will appear at the Summer Session next week for a series of lectures He will deal with atomic physics with special emphasis given to SOCIAL SECURITY PROGRAM the nucleus of the atom TO BE EXPLAINED Dr Laurence is internationally known and has one of the leading laboratories in the world Mr Heber R Harper of Denver Colorado and a member of the Social Security program will give a general Dr W E Blatz is holding his non- lecture on Thursday evening July 15 credit course on Parent and Child Re- His subject will be ‘‘The General SocToday at 1:00 in the auditorium lationships each Monday and Wednes- ial Security Program” Summer Session faculty students under the direction of the Entertainday evenings at 7:30 in the Little Theatre Everyone is invited to and townspeople are invited to attend ment Committee two very interesting movies will be shown his lecture free of charge The first movie is a humorus picture called ‘‘Relax’' It points out the effects that everyday disturbances have SCHEDULE OF EVENTS — JULY 6 -
