Outdoors Club provides wide variety of activities by Jill Edwards staff writer Dr David Kardelis CEU physics teacher decided to put an end to students whining that there was nothing to do on the weekends He started the CEU Outdoors Gub Students have the opportunity to go hiking skiing sailing mountain biking rock climbing and basically anything they want to try The Outdoors Gub is designed to be economical There are currentljr no dues for membership Kardelis understands that students do not always have the funds it takes to do activities “Students don’t have money I didn’t have money when 1 was a student If it costs money we're not going to get any students" He also knows that not everyone has the needed equipment The club will begin with activities like hiking Once students become involved and he can see where the interests lay Kardelis will begin helping the students move in a direction toward doing those activities He hopes to be able to obtain equipment donations from the community When businesses and people no longer need their outdoor gear he hopes to obtain skis tents and mountain climbing equipment from them In the warmer weather months students will be able to test their skill at sailing Kardelis recently purchased a sail boat and some students have their own boats Huntington Lake is a close location where the club may be seen attempting this skill “This is a beautiful area and I don't know how many students leave this campus except to drive up to Salt Lake" Kardelis said The Outdoors Gub would introduce the students to areas such as Consumer’s Canyon “You go up there any day of the week and you won't see anybody" Hiking is an inexpensive activity students pan continue to do until later in the year without the weather stopping them Activities like mountain biking will most likely be postponed during the cold weather but can be looked forward to in the spring He hopes that even students without bikes will still be able to participate The college has ten speeds the club may be able to use for riding on the roads cross-count- tee Outdoors four-wee- Two-thir- ds CEU Rosie's Veit & Bakery 700 £ Ti'red 637-67- 43 of the cafeteria Check out our new
