Show April 27 1995 Pape 9 Going beyond the classroom is recreation director's philosophy by Kimberly Mattingly staff writer Students at the College of Utah arc likely to be riding everything from tour and mountain bikes to horses to white water rapids thanks to the new recreation department on campus “Approximately one year ago" Rich McCormick recreation department director said “I did a survey to see what some of the (students) interests were and came up with a sort of master list of courses that could be offered” I le has fashioned the classes after this list and on registration days the classes fill rapidly “We always have students wailing and wanting to get into our classes That means that we arc doing what the students arc asking of us The more we can do for our students the happier that would make me The more we can do for our students the better equipped they are going to be to decide on a vocation” The recreation department has initiated eight classes for the recreation program with few exceptions most of these classes arc new Old and new classes include cross country skiing tour hiking (continued from page 8) Studies show that men talk more than their fair share One of the ways that men arc domineering is through interruptions When men and women talk with one another almost all interruptions are made by male speakers Males interrupt females more frequently than males interrupt other males Men gain verbal dominance by answering questions not addressed to them When women arc interrupted they generally do not put up an effort to hold the floor They arc more likely to ask questions and do “the housekeeping chores" of conversation by making encouraging and don't just go out pick people up throw them on a horse and say !'
