T r 'ft® : f x' :' i V V f Melissa Grogan Pam Dupin Todd Handy and Joe Carar were named College of Eastern Utah's 1991 Outstanding Students at the annual awards ceremony Monday night in the Alumni Room The outstanding students were selected by combination of high academics the faculty positions community service and participation in student life A resident of Price Grogan was named outstanding freshman While a student she participated in the forensics program served as news editor of die Eagle newspaper counselor for Anytown USA participated in poetry woriuhops helped organize Christian the Cvnpus Chisade organization and advisor for Carbon High School's Sterling Scholar program She has also served as a forensic's judge developed the layout and copy for the Engineering State Yearbook lobbied at the Utah Stale Capitol served as public relations officer for Carbon County Girl Scouts and served on a committee to develop a gifted and talented program for the Carbon School District Named one of three outstanding sophomores Dupin served as vice president of activities and will graduate with high honors She is a member of of the college programs committee Japanese the projects and acsocial problems tutor tivities for the Utah Student Association representa tea co-chair-ed tive of the Utah Intercollegiate Association Student Legislature CEU EcoOub member Young Activists Planning Something committee chairperson and was the graphic designer for the Eagle newspaper Dupin was captain of the lady Eagles basketball team the past two seasons where she was Second Team and named ICAC named as one of the top five outstanding players in Region 18 She is a native of Price Another recipient of the outstanding sophomore awards is a native of Roosevelt An student Handy was active in theatre where he had roles in "The Man Who Nfcver Died" and "The Day Room” and served as light manager for "Dracula” He was a member of the concert and chamber choirs dance department Eagle newspaper choir staff yell leader on cheer squad festival disc jockey for ASCEU sponsored dances and activity chairperson for 1991-9- 2 Carver is a native of Santa Rosa Calif and was named the third outstanding sophomore student Nationally known for his debating he won 62 trophies in 12 tournaments this past year including top speaker in the Santa Rosa Invitational Ricks College Invitational Eastern Utah Invitational and Utah Valley Invitational He was a member of the first team to win a national championship in debate against four-yecolleges at George Mason (continued on page 9) all-arou- nd inter-coUegi- ate r ar |
