Show New exhibit at Gallery East Local artists feature a "diverse collection" The various works of three College of Eastern Utah art instructors Brent Haddock Jim Young and iff Bcrgera are featured in "Forms From Castle Country" the newest exhibit in CELTs Gallery East The exhibit opened with a public reception for the artists Monday night It will be on display through December 12 "These are recent works representing several different mediums and styles Many have been on display at galleries throughout the region while others have been prepared especially for this show" explained Gallery East director and exhibitor Jim Young Young's sculpture and pottery including his recent sculptures in the "space totem" style will be part of the exhibit "Forms from Castle Country" will also include works that Haddock has displayed in the Mary Clark Gallery in Taos New Mexico Highlighted by etchings and prints Haddock's work captures the diversity and moods of southeastern Utah's scenic landscapes acrylic Bergera's mono-print- s s which printings and have also been displayed in galleries in Taos will compete the exhibit "It's a diverse collection" according to Young "Several selections were directly influenced by the surrounding terrain and reflect that environment while others are completely abstract" The exhibit will include only a small portion of the works created by the trio who all leach art and design courses at the College of Eastern Utah Many of the pieces will be available for public purchase In addition to the reception which is open to the public the exhibit will be open from 8 am to S pnt Monday through Friday in CEU's Main Building Special tours can be arranged by calling the col0 lege Young Haddock and Bergera display works in "Forms from Castle Country" in CEU's Gallery East through Dec 12 m v i a ‘ 'V LV — ' " 'a ' water-color- y-V- l V:! t '' I jfM y ' 4 i t V r t 'I vV f r- - - £ 637-212- — -- - A 'V-- 1 i "Lion in Winter " 'V - ' 'Tj J — brings facility members on stage by Travis Mann staff writer Instructor U Johnson and Dlan Henderson will return CEU's upcoming theater production "Lion In Wlnter7Photo "The family meets at Christmas where they in the fate of the engage in a repartee western world Or as King Henry would say To threaten hearts until break and beg I've won!' " Lee Johnson quotes from the upcoming production "The Lion in Winter" Johnson will portray King Henry II after four seasons off the stage at CEU Although he never strays far from the theater Johnson has been occupied directing and instructing The show deals with King Henry bringing his family together at Christmas time to name his heir Since his eldest son has died Henry must choose between his three surviving sons all of whom want to be king The conflicts are between the characters as they all try to achieve the throne Eleanor the queen played by Dian Henderson wants her son Richard the Lionheart to reign while Henry wants hu other son John both leaving Geoffrey out in the cold Although not a historical play the battles plots wars treaties and alliances referred to in the play are factual But the story itself is mainly fictious since there is no way to really know what the people really did or said Grady McEvoy director says that the play ia not a slapstick comedy but rather an intellectual comedy to the stage for "It is the ultimate in Johnson added by Stephanie Marra (continued on page 12) — ——— put-down- s" ' |
