Eagles had a rugged start The Eagles didn't shoot very well and were out rebounded At one time the Eagles were losing by 17 and at halftime they were only down by six In the end the Eagles lost 2 In that game William Allen had nine points and six rebounds Nelson Stewart had nine points with Kelvin Lee at 21 Steve Jennings scored eight points and Darren Stuart had nine The next time CEU plays North Idaho they will prepare for them differently The team was excited about beating Ricks College and coach Stubbs felt that they didn't come ready to play against North Idaho The next game against Snow College was the most exciting game from a fan standpoint but from a coaching standpoint coach Stubbs said he was nervous The team came out and was determined to beat Snow and this they did with a score of 3 William Allen played pretty good defense with a total of 20 points Nelson Stewart had a great game with 18 points and 14 rebounds Coach Stubbs is looking forward to Stewart doing a good job next year at CEU Kelvin Lee had three and totaled 26 points He had a good game defensively also Ralph McKinney didn't score very much but his main job on the team is to contain the opponents best guard Snow's best guard usually scores 30 points and McKinney held him to four Everyone that came in during this game was ready to play and some players played 38 or 39 minutes and had to play the same amount of time against Dixie College The game against Dixie was a tough game for the Eagles because the Rebels had an excellent game Many CEU players were fatigued but they did not give up The free throw shooting was what hurt the Eagles and coach Stubbs said if the shots would have been made they would have been right in the game Dixie came out on top with a score of 6 William Allen had a great game against Dixie with 25 points and 16 rebounds "Wherever William Allen ends up after this year he will be a great asset to their program” coach Stubbs Freshman Tom Code got the job done defensively and had some good rebounds Ingo Wolf came off the bench and did a good job for the team Kelvin Lee had a fine game with 29 points he explained Coach Stubbs said "Dixie knew that they were going to have to play one of their best games ever to beat us and they also know when it comes down to the playofls anybody can beat anybody" CEU is sitting pretty good in terms of the playofls The top eight teams in the conference will have a playoff to see who win represent the ICAC at nationals The schools with the best records will host the playoffs The Eagles faced Weber State January 2 and cruised through the game with a 118 to 79 final score "The Weber JV game was fun” said coach Stubbs 1 really didn't have to do that much coaching The players knew what they had to do” The last time CEU played Weber Stale College J V the Eagles won by only one point This time the Earles sent the wildcats home to lick their wounds 77-9- 82-8- three-pointe- rs 93-8- £ Nelson ‘Stretch Stewart leans article it explained the conclu- sions that the ad hoc committee made during their meetings in No- vember December and January to either save or drop the program Part two will further explain the committee's discussions and reasonings that were submitted to the CEU senate and institutional council At that time the ad hoc committee felt that CEU needed to raise more money to save the program 1C as Will the Chief Allen waits ter the rebound drop football program $50000 needed to save football They felt that it was particularly frustrating that this major financial commitment (the yearly football budget) was inadequate to produce a successful program It was the conclusion of the ad hoc review committee that a mini- mum of $50000 more was needed in the football budget yearly and that much more than that would be required to have a genuinely strong program Current funding levels force CEU to rely on one full time coach and several part time temporary assistants to follow travel schedules which make it difficult for players to be rested and prepared to play to accept high level of attritions to costs at tolerable keep grant-in-ai- d levels and to accept numerous other compromises that make the program weak and uncompetitive Winning program needed When football was reinstated it was recognized that the benefits which were identified would be dependent on establishing a winning prgram CEU has won a football championship only once in its history in 1947 as part of the Intermountain Collegiate Athletic Conference (continued on page 7) o Aryan Nations
