Show 2— CEU Friday March 11 1983 ( —®PDC3DC3— t Parenting workshops scheduled Positive attitudes solve problems By Claire Maxwell of the Eagle staff ' Dwelling on the bad ignoring the good seems to be a trend at CEU We’ve heard a lot about poor student activities poor financing poor student attitudes poor this and poor that During this the good news at the college seems to have been forgotten I admit that CEU does have some problems that need to be solved but the way to solve them is through positive means and positive attitudes One asset that CEU has is the quality and concern of teachers I’m not aware of any teacher on campus who is not willing to help students if they need it and ask for it The only way a student doesn’t receive help is if they choose to ignore the teacher’s help This concern from teachers is hard to find in other institutions especially in larger universities The college definitely does have a caring faculty one that we should be proud of Another strong point of the college is its clubs and organizations The drama club has produced some very entertaining plays this year and have had trips to southern and northern California The choir and band have also had very effective programs and are planning trips to California on tour this spring Forensics has also had a very effective year taking six sweepstakes trophies Our athletic department has also done quite well with the girls attending regionals and the men won some very exciting games in both football and basketball The Mack student union has accomplished a lot even though they have only been organized a short while They have already had an impressive assembly and a very informative and interesting forum featuring exceptional speakers These are only a few of the accomplishments of some of the departments and dubs Many more exist — all to promote and add to the spirit of the college The last and most effective asset at CEU is the students There are many talented and friendly people on campus who always have a warm smile and a good word Let’s get out of our rut of always finding the bad and be optimistic Sure the college has problems but then what doesn’t CEU can be a very good place if we’il just look at the good and use it to overcome the bad Mickey Mouse By Lona Colby Editor Let’s have some fun around here! I have been seriously thinking (along with some help from others) about some new courses which could be offered at colleges ours specifically What would happen if colleges started teaching courses like underwater basket-weavin- 101 g necking T01 and 102 anatomy with live models finger painting 101-1(you’ll end up using all ten 05 fingers) relaxation a professional 102-1- (become doing nothing) notes 101 10 at how to take how to read your notes after you’ve taken them 101 and how to study for finals when you're never prepared 101 Teaching these classes would involve radical changes in the school system and we don’t want to cause that now do we? It would certainly be a change from the offerings of physiology be holding 31-Ap- 7 announced ril Phil Brown director of the child development center A cost of $5 will be charged for the workshops which include nutrition storytelling and discipline During the week CEU will sponsor jointly with Headstart a parenting conference held at CEU on March 31 Brown said that parents wanting to attend the workshops but have small children can use CEU’s babysitting services in the child development center All workshops will take place from 9 am to 3 pm the Parent Education Resource Center (PERC) The center is provided by the physics and They would brighten someone’s day who has 20 credits of “he?vy” classes Relaxation 102 is what this person would need The teacher as well as the students would get some enjoyment from an “easy” class Certainly the finals would be a lot more enjoyable for the Student who wouldn’t get into knots over preparing for a necking final Haven’t they been dating for four or five (or more) years to prepare for the final? In contrast to the classes which are at present offered why not add one or two Mickey Mouse classes? Other than an overwhelming response and huge classes I don’t see what other results would come The trouble would be choosing a professor to teach each class but of all those that apply After all they need some relaxation too parenting workshops during the Week of the Young Child March held Brown added One workshop designed for parents specifically will be on R philosophy Editor College of Eastern Utah will Posters and brochures will notify the public of the place where each workshop will be courses suggested for R & By Lona Colby Lady's Delight: Duane Newsome Steve Thomas Duane Holston Curtis "Ice Cream" Mann winners of the talent contest PtwttbyMctMriOwvM rOrGIlSICS pldCG cppnnH at Qnnui mmMmA Jn division at 5now College's Invitational held in Ephraim last weekend Dixie College bested the Eagles for the third time out of four matches this season to stakes squad with a first place trophy in oral interpretation and a third in informative speaking Other winners included Nannette Turcasso placing second in oral interpretation and sixth in impromptu Claire Maxwell third in impromptu and sixth in informative Donya Gardiner fourth in duet acting and sixth in persuasion Mark Hollingshead fourth in duet acting and sixth in speaking to entertain and Wylie Gcrrard fourth in speaking to entertain Carbon County School District with resource materials for parental use The center is presently located in the district office Although it is designed for parents students can attend the workshop as well which includes an explanation on how to use the center and its materials Brown said by phil frank FRANKLY SPEAKING HEUDERS0N MEW GO- A - WORKER- - Bip AMSINCE Rk-- HAVE HE HAS YOU OMLV ME t THE BSCOfA- IS ttXR - £eS |
