Company" captivated their audience and held it until the completion of the concert Their program was basically Country and Western music consisting of an array of songs However some of them lent themselves to the more contemporary side of the music world The concert was casually “interrupted" by the leader of the group Barry Bryner who his entertained listeners with humorous and stories of his life as well as stories about members of his band At intermission Reverend Richard Taylor Minister of the Price Chapel of the tid-bi- ts Christian and Missionary Alliance Church and a member of the Carbon Hospital Board informed the audience of the importance of the intensive care unit at the hospital and the need for equipment He announced that the the in position of vacancy will Administrator Hospital be filled by an appointment by the Hospital Corporation of America Mr Bryner raffled two lobster dinners and auctioned six The raffle was won by young Jaylene Powell The auction prices for the dinners for two were 625 $21 and $25 in that order These eight lobster dinners were donated by the Carbon Country Club The total donations received from this project including admission and auctions amounted to over A check was $200 to the hospital presented and was received with much appreciation for a job well done and a significant contribution for the purchase of equipment crest of the next hill I curve and signal left passing a car to take the lead whose driver can’t count above thirty-fiv- e as the highway streamlines into one narrow lane Viewing from within my cozy auto nature almost fools me The frozen waterfall among the bare crystal brown trees reveals the only clue to winter not spring I will always wonder how someone can have a house built next to a highway The bare boards molding the new home are ready for bricks and shingles their padding against the rumbling chorus of noisy traffic telling me it’s too late to start somewhere else A loud honk not like that of a car but a prolonged bass buzzer grips my attention signaling a tram’s approach It moves along next to me I accelerate and keep pace a game I play clocking its movement and then racing into the lead Then a sudden deafening sound the KOAL announcer blasts at me yelling to keep my attention as I pass the tall red and white signal tower I’m really bored with the Farm Report and switch my attention to the children huddled waiting for the bus bringing back fond memories times when going to Price was a trip to the big city Speeding up to shake off a compusive tailgater a lost child following me as if I were his mother I pass the lonely house with the beautiful red wooden fence The huge round knotted wood is of such monumental form it overshadows the unkempt yard a beautiful wrapping for a shabby gift I always try to ignore the Mobile Home Communities a sign of growth but poor planning because they depress me The wheat field to the right looks sown ready to bear new crop also fooled by nature’s inconsistencies I suddenly brake as I see through the comer drive turns into of my eye the red flash ahead a Metro Service to be fed The highway is edged with a long row of monotonous houses nothing special or unique Depressing the brake I round the broken weather-ridde- n almost cobblestone road going under the underpass Hearing the train rumbling overhead I think again of the four-whe- el race Entering Price Main Street seems like a foreign town When dragging at night it seems only for the purpose of wearing it down to think you're having a good time Checking the clock at First Security I’m running five minutes late as usual but take time to honk at a buddy passing by As a habit I scope Jeanselme's parking lot forgetting it’s morning No chance of seeing Pete or Jim having a cup Signaling left entering the turn lane kitty-cornto Cook’s the Friday night hangout it looks nt-something's missing No hardasses in front telling dirty jokes holding up the wall Just a tiny brown dog standing alone in the parking lot gazing at nothing The light turns yellow ana I proceed left only to face the crowded stalky office building being constructed on the next corner Lonely in the early morning hours the Milky refuge a welcome part of my Way stands as a CEU career for that very reason Entering the parking lot finding a space close to the door a good friend waves cheerfully as if to say Good Morning It’s a brand new day er differe- non-Morm- on T 7 |
