Show Volume VIII College of Eastern Utah Price Utah—Wednesday June 4 The Golden Eagle staff members and former members Missing are Mr Brent West Ricky Gilbert Anna Lee Holdaway Number 1969 II From Us to You Once upon a time there was a called the college newspaper Gc'dcn Eagle that was destitute for someone to work on it So a group of students and few other edds and ends were collected and were thereafter called collectively as a staff The only trouble was that there was too much "green" involved— no experience hardly at all— and so the newspaper began to be called behind its back other Golden "The names besides Eagle" A quarter had come and gone and the editor of the newspaper (who was the only one with experience) finished school and moved to greener pastures And there was wailing and gnashing of teeth The administration decided this was a good time to get organized and picked an editor who had just returned from a mission and he organized his staff into a somewhat workable proposition And happy day! By the time the college year ended the newspaper had decided it was succeeding quarter-experience- d If the above tale bears any resemblance to real life it was meant to Looking back over the pa't year we of the newspaper staff can say it was — well an experience working on the newspaper The Golden Eagle has made vast improevents over what it started out to be and next year promises even better with the bulk of this year's staff coming back and an excellent number of new staff members working The only ingredient that is needed to make the newspaper what it can be is you the reader No matter how well organized or what the quality of staff a newspaper is only as good as the public wants it to be Without your help this year we would never have succeeded even as much as we have And we thank you So from us to you: happy holidays and may the good fairy plaster you with star dust Lorin Pace to Speak The College of Eastern Utah finalized plans for spring graduation Mr Lorin Pace Speaker of the House of Representatives and Salt Lake City attorney will present the commencement ad- dress Mr Pace a graduate of the University of Utah Law School is a former foreign service officer having served in Washington D C and Honduras in Central He was America as Mission President for the LDS Church in Argentina and Chile In addition to a from number of church public and professional activities Mr Pace has been very active in scouting and has served as explorer leader of Post 514 in Holloday for the past eight years He is married and has 9 children 6 sons and Vice-Cons- 1956-196- 0 Eagles Set Tradition Tuesday May 20 saw Eagle students carrying rakes hoes and shovels to school The activities of Eagle Day began at 9:00 pm with everyone assembling in the Geary Theater The first activity was a campus dean up Committees for the dcan-u- p were headed by next year's officers with this year’s Lond Wakefield and assisting Rand Torgeson presidents cleaned around the fence of the football field Mary Donaldson and Joe Espinoza social vice presidents traveled up the hill to paint the "Golden E" Cultural vice presidents JoAnn Tryon and Dan Adams cleaned weeds and raked along the side of the library nearest the gym near the art building and the heating plant Clean- - ing around the front of the school from the music building to the administration wing were Anne Passey and Peggy Atwood sec- president Pat Dimick and Karen Muranaka retaries AWS and public relations director Bob burned and chopped Ewer weeds and cleaned up trash from Aaron Jones Hall to the football AMS Allen field president cleanWright and Elwin Atwood ed near the new dorms Each student that helped with the cleanup was given a ticket which entitled him to a free lunch on the football field The lunch was sponsored by members of the faculty After lunch the students participated in some fun games The d first event held was a (Continued on page Three) three-legge- 3 daughters Thursday June 5 the faculty and staff of the College of Eastern Utah will witness the graduation of some 198 students of their Certificates to be studentbndy awarded include associate degrees of art science industrial mechanics auto mechanics business and secretarial and machine shop and certificates of completion will be given in clerical cosmetology auto stenography mechanics and machine shop The graduation program will take place on the CEU campus in the Geary Theater beginning with an academic procession of graduates and faculty Following the academic procession Dr John W Tucker President of the College of Eastern Utah will acknowledge the presence of special guests and present a special welcome address The invocation will be given by the CEU Salutatorian Nccia Erramauspe The Valedictorian address will be given by Miss Cardan Postma after which the commencement address will be given by the honorable Lorin N Pace Professor F Dean Walton Dean of Instruction of CEU will present the graduates with University of Utah Board of ReLuke gents member Pappas awarding the diplomas The benediction will be offered by Carleen Matckovic CEU In addition the commencement ceremony will include a vocal solo by Ann Forsyth "You'll Never Walk Alone" The College will sing the "Christ Theme" and the college choir will present "Build Thee More Stately Mansions" directed by Frank Postma Mrs Dorothy Bunnell will play the prelude and postlude music for the commencement program Dignitaries are expected from the Board of Regents and the University of Utah administrative body in addition to many state and local officials from Utah The Can-toru- m newly appointed institutional council to the College of Eastern Utah will be in attendance at the commencement exercise |
