Show THE WEEKLY CARBONICLE Page Four CARBONETTES HANSON WASHBURN FEAST The Carbonettes held their annual basketball banquet for the lower division team Tuesday night at 7:30 in the Carbon College Cafeteria The guests present were Dr and Mrs Jones Mrs Bess Jones Mr and Mrs Axelgard Miss Nelson and Miss Flaim Darlene Dougherty acted as toastmistress The program began with an opening prayer by Geraldine Hyita and a speech of welcome by Katherine Regas ti: A vocal solo by Shirley a speech by Louis Bosco an instrumental of clarinet saxophone cornet and piano by Anna Schoenberger Alice Hansen Norma Givson and Ssirley Ove-so- n a reading by Rose Oliveto speech by Coach Axelgard vocal quartet by Alberta Jerant Joyce Bonacci Anna Schoenberger Mary Neimer and Beverly Dyet piano solo by Beverly Dyet speech by Dr Jones vocal solo by Lucille Pretigar and accordion solo by Teresa Pascuzzi At conclusion of the banquet Katherine Regas presented the floral basketball to Coach Axelgard The theme of the banquet was Spring Revelry" Gig-liot- Friday April 8 1949 Buck’s Takes Trophy (Continued from Page One) fercncc will be held from April 10 to 13 inclusive Mr Hansen is the Utah State Chairman for String Instructors and is also a member of the Utah Folk Song Committee to the conference Another faculty member also receiving honors is Mr J Nile Washburn Carbon Journalism and Speech teacher He has been asked to deliver graduating to two Utah high schools: Roosevelt on May 19 and at May 20 Last year Mr Washburn gave similar addresses at commencement addresses for Blanding and Monticello hign es Ta-bio- na schools ODE TO A BORROWER I think An independent team representing Buck’s Sporting Goods captured first place honors in a basketball tournament in Fruita Colorado March 24 25 and 26 Buck’s team went undefeated in four games by downing Rifle 78-Markrud-ThomPalisade 56-51-50-Rasco’s and as 32 38 42 39 The members of the team were Louis Bosco Toy Atwood Tom Steele Art Steele Don Johnson Neil Maxfield Chris Axelgard and Calmar Griffith The team was ably coached by Angelo Mah-ler- as who was unable to play because of infection in his toe The team sponsored by Buck’s Sporting Goods garnered seven out of sixteen trophies given away at the tournament Calmar Griffith and Tom Steele received trophies for making the team Toy Atwood won the sportsmanship trophy Tom Steele was voted "most valuable man in player’’ and high-poi- nt that 1 shall never see The dollar that I loaned to thee A dollar that I could have spent For varied forms of merriment The one I loaned to you so gladly The same which I now need so badly For whose return I had hoc tournament I'm just an optimistic dope Fisher Beer also of Price took For dollars loaned to folks like consolation honors and was me Will never be returned you see awarded a trophy ent Have Your §1111- - GRADUATION PORTRAITS Ailvocatc TAKEN NOW!
