Eva From Sweden Comes To Carbon "I think Carbon is fun It is freer (than her own country) If you don’t study it is your problem” This statement was made by Eva Karlsson freshman at Carbon College where she has been attending school since Sep- tember 1958 Eva was bom and reared in Karlskrona Sweden She is one of eleven children four girls and seven boys Her education (in Sweden) has been a well rounded one and has included German and English as well as two years of business college She came to America in March of 1954 to visit relatives in Boston In May 1955 she and her cousin secured positions at a guest ranch in Colorado During her two years in the United States she toured the country Then she went back to Sweden in 1956 with the intention of staying Her homeland was “nice and snowy" but she decided to come back to America The strangest thing that she has discovered about the schools of the United States is the beha-vo- lr of the students In the Swedish schools the students stand when the teachers enter the room and speak only when spoken to She was surprised to see the American students talk chew gum lay their heads on their desks and turn around in the schoolroom It seems that America is misrepresented in movies shown in Sweden and Eva stated that she and her relatives were mildly shocked to discover that1 America really docs have cowboys She was also surprised to learn that all American women do not own fur coats Sperry Company Offers Future Employee Course A new course in Machine Shop Practice for future employees of the Sperry Company will be established
