Dorothy Hardee We the students of Carbon have repeatedly been accused of conducting ourselves in a very degrading and unsportsmanlike manner at our athletic events Does the blame really lie with us? Last Friday afternoon I attended the basketball game in our gymnasium The game had just begun and there was no unnecessary noise or disturbance whatsoever from the students attending In fact while 1 was there I witnessed a display of typical school spirit something which Carbon has almost lost I was overjoyed to see the cheerleaders getting support from all of the student body As the game proceeded I was amazed to hear the gentleman seated next to me heckle the referee and do exactly what we have been told not to do One of the faculty members cautioned him to refrain from shouting before the students were aroused to do the same thing Perhaps the townspeople do not fully realize the situation here at Carbon Do they know how hard we have to fight to maintain our standing with other schools of the state? Carbon High School has just been admitted back into league play Next fall the eyes of every school in the state will be upon us The people of our county and the students of our school must work together to regain the respect and esteem which we have somehow lost JOURNALISM CLASS SUPPORTS PROJECTS It seems that the City --County polio-strick- en thls-yca- r's all-st- GRADUATES POSTED The big question all the seniors were asking Wednesday was “Is my name on the graduation Ust?” Needless to say many were forced to answer in the negative The list as it stands is by no means final Many eligible senior names were not listed simply because of misunderstandings A feature of the list is the large number of students college-preparato- ry War Department Almost Out of Business According to the “Hubs" Mr Morgan Debaters Off Again sentee and Mr Olsen the ablists for the past few days been have very short As of deadline time yesterday Mr Olsen and Mr Morgan were the college debaters were planning another trip this time to Lo- so unhappy they were trying to gan to an annual speech tourna- find new ways for giving 20 ment If they are not around to- cuts Can it be done? day that's where they are Those making the journey are ' Boyd Fj eldsted John Jones Robert Bryner Jim Taylor Nick Nikas and Tom Bithell They were to use the Bithell family car hospital is in need of a few supplies The children's room for instance has been newly painted but there are no suitable curtains pictures or chairs to liven the room up The first-perijournalism class has decided to do something about this Each student is going to give a larger amount for the March of Dimes This amount March of Dimes will be split two ways Half will go to the polio fund and half to Give now to the annual March the hospital of Dimes Yes the time when patients plead for has come once again your help Carbonites to Play Carbon College set aside this Tilt In All-St- ar week for the drive but the amount collected has not yet been Further honors have come to revealed In the past years the Carbon athletics Earl Ferguson students of our school have given of the Utah High School Athletics Association announced recently very generously and it is believed that Max Oliphant and Morris they will do so again this year Nelson have been selected to play because the students understand ar footShrine in that they might be the victims of the dread crippler ball game in the Ute Stadium od LIST OF PROSPECTIVE i For The UBest lor Less TAXI SNACK SHOP Price Utah |
