713-587-54- 07 BYU upgrades transfer requirements by Jennifer Mecham staff writer Brigham Young University is taking applications for transferring students A few new requirements are being installed for those students interested in transferring to BYU fall quarter Students applying to transfer to BYU should complete a minimum of 48 quarter hours of credit and send an official transcript Students requesting to transfer before completing 48 quarter hours must submit an official high school transcript and their American College Test (ACT) results To be competitive a student should have both a cumulative grade point average and a general grade point average above the 30 (B) level "At least 40 percent of the hours completed should be in the general education subjects of English mathematics history science and a foreign language Courses with a grade of Dor below will not fill GE requirements" said Jan Young College of Eastern Utah's director of admissions and records Students who transfer to BYU must be able to graduate in the normal time allotted to BYU students who are in the same major and the same class standing or grade level Advanced placement CLEP and military credit are available at BYU Students with a score of 3 4 or 5 on an AP exam may receive up to eight semester hours of credit at BYU for each exam BYU will give three semester hours of credit for the CLEP exam in each of the five general areas of English natural sciences mathematics humanities and social sciences if a student scores 610 or higher on each exam Students who have been on active duty in the military for more than one year may receive 15 semester hours of credit In PE and four semester hours of military science credit Credit may be given for completion of special military schools Students must complete the entire Book of Mormon sequence In addition students transferring with less than 144 credit hours must complete one course in The Doctrine and Covenants Transfers with less than 9 credit hours must complete one course in The New Testament as well as the course in The Doctrine and Covenants These courses can be completed at an LDS Institute of Religion or at BYU Students will be required to complete a minimum number of religion credits on the BYU campus regardless of the number of religion hours they have completed elsewhere To find out which classes transfer to BYU contact Jan Young at CEU's admissions office and ask for the Guide for General Education or the 1993-9- 4 BYU Articulation Agreement or contact BYU's Transfer ASB Evaluation Office at B-2- 38 CEU it’s time to get flexed by Jennifer Mecham staff writer Spring is around the comer and with it comes those dreaded swimsuits Don't panic There's still time to get in shape A program offered at CEU for women is a flex class This is not a class offered by the school for credit Richard Guymon CEU's fitness lab supervisor started it to make women feel more confident about their self-ima- ge "Women have been raised to think that having muscle isn't feminine but when they see bulges they hide under baggy clothes which only increases the problem" he said "In the flex class women are taught to flex their muscles and see which ones need to be worked on and leant which exercises bring out the definition of each muscle for a leaner healthier look" Guymon added This improves self-con- fi dence as no single woman has gone in with a perfect body Everyone has their good characteristics and something that needs to be worked on so don't feel embanassed to start the class he said If you're worried about looking like an American Gladiator don't be "Flex class is about tightening and toning your body" Guymon said It strips away your shyness and reservations You’ll also learn tips you can do in your spare time for improving those trouble areas You will see results immediately and your will improve so drastically that by spring break you'll feel like a model out of Sports Illustrated he added The classes are at9 am on Fridays and 8 am on Saturdays They are even free so what have you got to lose?
