Show The Eagle Thursday page8 November 16 1989 Lady Eagles falter in their quest for ESU-- ICAC championship Women's Volleyball CSU -- Richard Hickmon sports editor by In their first ICAC post season playoff game of the decade the College of Eastern Utah volleyball team experienced a jittery start as they bore witness to nationally ranked Ricks College The Eagles met the Vikings in their first match on Friday and played against experience and height Ricks jumped out to a quick 1 lead before CEU could finally get something going to come within one at 4 But from there on out the Vikings look off like a boll of lightning and before one knew it held on to a 15-- 6 victory and a one game lead over the Lady Eagles Charissc Pincombc had a strong net game while teammates Cynthia Tadd and Jancal Pabst both seemed to be all over the court Tina Garcia served well off the bench In game two the Lady Eagles just couldn't seem to get anything together as the Lady Vikings blew by them on their way to a 15-- 2 thrashing of CEU Game three looked to be CEU's lucky number in the early moments of this game as Ricks tried to come back but the Lady Eagles looked strong they jumped out front 1 Barbara Skaggs and Pam Dupin played well in their quest for a win pushing CEU out to a 10-- 3 lead while everything seemed to be going their way But like the old saying goes what the Lord giveth the Lord taketh away The Lady Eagles soon found that out when Ricks scored 12 unanswered points cruising on to a e 0 victory and a sweep of the Eagles In CEU's second game of the double elimination tournament they were paired up against the 12lh ranked team in the nation College of Southern Idaho Again the Lady Eagles' inexperience seemed to get the best of them as CSI jumped out front 0 Tadd played a strong game blocking shots and coming up with big spikes while teammate Pincombc contributed with some fierce net play of her own Julia Leech helped CEU come within one point at 2 with her serving but from there on out it was all CSI as they went on to take game one 15-- 3 In game two the Lady Eagles tried to save face as they joined a lengthy sec-sabattle with CSI but in the end CSI conquered with a 15-- 7 victory CEU's Tadd turned in another great performance during game two and Pabst contributed at the net The third game went all CSI's way as well as they jumped out front before the Lady Eagles even got on the board CSI pushed out front 14-- 1 before CEU could put together a little run of their own holding off CSI and scoring five unanswered points to pull the score to 14-- 6 CSI then seemed to gain their composure back and put the game away 15-- 6 giving CEU their second straight tournament loss and three game sweeps for their 5-- 5-- 4-- 15-1- three-gam- 3-- 3-- w 4-- 0 back-to-ba- ck opponents "Our team just seemed to be really nervous out on the court but I thought by the second game they would have settled down" coach Colon commented "I felt pretty good about the way they played though and I'm proud of them for making it to this point" Colon also mentioned that he feels his team will be back next year stronger than ever because hell only be losing three players from this year's team and feels good about his new recruits FtB quarter 1989 College nf Eastern Utah 3 on 3 intramural basketball revised schedule Team 1 Silver Bullets Tram 2 Keyst oners Team 3 Blue Bayou!
