Show "Godspell" set on Geary stage By Trevor Olsen Entertainment Editor The College of Eastern Utah Theatre Arts Department will open its 1987-8- 8 season with the Utah Stale Board of Regents during the group's Price CEU President Dr Michael Petersen addresses the meeting production of "Godspell” a musical based on the gospel to Sl Matthew according 19 20 21 1987 It November will be presented in the Geary Theatre at 7:30 pm Tickets are available at the cashier’s window of the Business Office They are $4 - adults $3 - students and senior citizens and $2 - CEU students faculty and staff The cast of this year's production consists of a number of new and returning CEU students Tara Andrus graduated from CEU last year but returns to the stage for this production Tara was involved in both theatre and music while at CEU She had roles in "The Children's Hour” Brides "Seven Seven for Brothers” and she played Leisel in last year's production of "The Sound of Music” is Blake a Stephanie freshman theatre student this year She comes to CEU from Blanding where she was very involved in drama Her most memorable role was that of Porsche in ”Cindcrclla” at San Juan High School Another freshman in the cast is Wendy Jo DeFriez Wendy cranes to CEU from Castle Dale where she was very involved in Emery High School's drama department for three years Lara Lanae Freeborn is a sophomore theatre student this year She came to CEU last year from Parawan and she made a great impact on the theatre department Her dramatic role as Karen in last year's production of "The Children's Hour" earned her a nomination from the Rocky Mountain Theatre Association where she competed in the Irene Ryan Scholarship Competition freshman Todd Handy theatre student from Roosevelt was very involved in drama at Union High School His most memorable role at Union was playing the character of Conrad Birdie in the musical "Bye Bye Birdie" He enjoys the theatre department at CEU and says he likes "having fun with the show and the cast" Rebecca Hess comes to CEU this year from Salt Lake City where she attended Brighton High School She was involved in drama all three years in high school both in the school and ir competition While in Salt Lake her most memorable role was playing Agnes Gooch in the comedy "Marne" Freshman theatre student Calvin Johnson comes to CEU from Summit where he was very involved in theatre Although Ire has many favorite roles which he has played his most memorable from high school was competing (continued on page 8) CEU council sees enrollment report The College of Eastern Council Institutional Utah approved the college's fall quarter enrollment report which showed the largest enrollment in the history of the school op 130 students from last year and the increase and a 12i percent full time equivalent (PTE) increase When CEUs main campus and its San Juan campus headcount are combined 2132 students are This is classes attending last fall compared to 1771 largest percentage of growth experienced by any of the nine institutions of higher education Resident Michael A Petersen presented to the council the comparison chart showing last fall quarter's enrollment and this fall quarter's enrollment main CEUs campus headcount experiencedi33peicent quarter The council also approved the budget request update the college is requesting from the Board of Regents After that group's approval the Regents win submit it along with the requests of the other institutions of higher education to the 1988 Legislature for their approvaL Petersen explained to the council that the Regents are supporting an approach that is generally supported by the nine presidents in the system of higher education This approach would place equal priority on funding enrollment growth expected would (which provide over $234000 In state funding to CEU) and replacement of half the The reimbursed overhead universities would see additional research and development funding enrollment "Placing the at the of growth priority lop list will be beneficial to CEU Because of the rapid growth we are experiencing this funding priority would allow us to hire additional faculty and staff and provide important support for equipment and supplies in the instructional area” be added A second major emphasis would be on a modest salary increase (about three percent) for faculty and staff Petersen felt other projects would not stand a strong chance of funded because of being in the revenue limitations available for next year council a partial revision in the group's bylaws concerning the committee structure was approved Council members authorized a reduction from the present 11 committees to three committees Those committees would be the budget and finance committee curriculum planning and staffing committee and the public governmental and student affairs committee The council members will take action on the exact definition role and membership of each committee at the next council In the last matter of the meeting at 10 aro on Monday |
