The dispatch which we j rut in another column, from fudge Settle to President Grant, seems to settle the doubtful question as te who wuu in the North Carolina contest. The result of that lelitical fight, wherein for the first time the great opposing parties of the Nation met in peaceful array at the mils, is clearly in favor of the administration. The Tar-IIcState," carried two years ago by the Democratic party, by more than four thousaud majority; now expresses its preference fur General Grant and the Republican party, by a handsome majority, after a contest in which both sides were represented by their best speakers, and wherein money was freely spent by either purty. The administration victory is significant in this, that it shows tlml the negro vole of the South bus not been affected by the nemiuuliuu of Grcclev by the Democrats, or the desertinn of the flag by Charles Sumner. George, aged 103 years, suicided at Rochester, 111., yesterday. The speeches of Senator Henry Wilson in Indiana are being listened to by immense crowds. Tho letter of Gun. Jno. A. Second Because he has usually been found among the most extreme ou the great questions of political and social duty, which have been brought under public discussion during tbe lust quarter of a century. Third, Because he has been the advo-canil in instances persistently of that most unjust and and unequal commcr cial system which- is destroying our mercantile and shipping interests, and heaping np an immense accumulation of wealth in the bands of the protected classes to the opprrssiou and impoverishment of all outers. Fourth Because he is associated in relations, more or less intimate, with some of the chief plunderers of the city of New York, justly warranting the apprehension that through the complicity of his facile disKsition, the same system of fraud, or corruption which has disgraced the municipal government ef lliia city, may lie earned to more infamous length in the administration of the Federal Government, and Fifth Because in tbe darkest hour of the couutry's peril, when a traitorous coialiiuntmn had beea found to overthrow the Government he openly counseled the cowardly policy of aud an acquiescence in the dissolution of the union, whenever the cotton States should make up their minds to go. Near the village of Yecla, in the province of Murcia, in Spain, there ia a hill called "El Ccrro de los Angeles," owing to the numerous fragments of statues which have been discovered near it. A little more than a year ago, the heavy rains, or other circumstances, brought to the surface some fragments of antique statues which attracted great attention, and caused excavations to lie insdeiu the locality. Among the discoveries made were these of curious female standing figures, about twelve ia number, four or which have large conical bead dresses, and tbe body covered with drapery in lyminetrical folds: the remainder have smaller hsad dresses, although richer in ornamentation, and necklaces in the form of a cord or plait. AU these statues hold a vase in their hands at the height of their waist. One of these figures holds the vase with one hand, and in the other has an object which appears to be the flower of lotas. Another hoe her hand lifted to her shoulder, in the same way as the figures of the thirteenth century which holda the cords of their mantles. Tho moat remarkable of all is a figure which bolds a vase from which flames issue; on her breast is a large necklace, with a representation of the sun and moon and a star, and on a zone of tho interior tnnie at the height of the knees several attributes are engraved.
