Show UTAH LABOR NEWS, SALT LAKE CITY, UTAH, OCTOBER 30. 1936. ROOSEVELT-LAND- ON Heres The Record ROOSEVELT am grateful for at least one thing in this campaign, and that is of the opposition campaigners have been willing to say that I all that am at least honest and that I am at least a gentleman. The campaign started out with a few petty charges which were soon exploded and has now settled down so that the opposition case consists entirely of two claims. One is that I made a deal with State Senator Maw by which deal I have surrendered my duties, powers, and prerogatives as Governor. Number two is that in my administration I have been dominated and dictated to by others so thht my official actions have not been based upon my own judgment'and decisions. I will now proceed to dispose of the oppositions whole case. First, I have never been asked to make a deal of any kind with Senator Maw. Such a matter has never been considered by me. I have made no deal of any kind. I have not promised to Senator Maw, or any other person, clique, group, or organization the adoption of any policy or any appointment. I have not agreed to nor will I sur-drender one iota of my powers as Governor of this state in exchange for support or in any manner nor at all. Any statements or sugges-prem- e tions or insinuations to the contrary are absolutely unfounded and entirely false. Any person making such statement or insinuation is totally unreliable and unworthy of any trust or confidence. So that I LANDON Security Security Landon faces both ways on ca security. The president says the executive council endorsed him, and the secretary claims the convention endorsed him. There you are! Convention delegates claim Greenwood was not endorsed by the convention. The way Greenwoods endorsement has been juggled by Republican laborites it is meaningless. It is not worth the paper it is written on. There is one certainty. And that is that the voters who are wholeheartedly for the New Deal will not scratch their ballot for a candidate who is opposed to Roosevelt and the New Deal candidates on the Democratic ticket. The Trade Union Democratic League of Utah is supporting Mr. Skidmore. He is for President Roosevelt and the New Deal. New Type Colonel An inquisitive stranger, passing through Kentucky, was introduced to a Colonel Shelby. The stranger asked: Did you serve i.i the Con- federate army? No, suh! said the colonel. I presume you were in the Union army, then? ventured the asker. Certainly not, suh! Perhaps you have belonged to the reserves or the militia? No, suh, I never belong to any such thing. Perhaps you are one of those honorary colonels that the governor is always appointing? Not that, neither, suh. Many persons hereabouts have official titles who are not entitled to them, but I came bv mine legitimately, suh. I married the widow of Col. Tarwater, suh.
