FEBRUARY Page 8 Editorial Page of MTOCSOAIL: (Continued from rage 1) there is nothing greater than the need for peace and cooperation in industry and government. There is no force more potent than goodwill and no vic- tory more disastrous than that which one group of labor may win at the expense of another. This dark outlook will begin to look bright with the first real move for harmony. ' Labor is interested in good government. Good government can be secured and maintained through the ballot box in 1 1, 1938 Tnhte Uttalhi ILialboir among other workers. And now they have entered the prin ciple of lending a helping hand to their organized brothers from the mining districts to the whole nation. Almost every working man and woman ip the country who has won better wages and conditions and union protection, ir the last couple of years, owes a debt of gratitude to the Unitec Mine Workers and the other great unions associated with it in promoting industrial organization. The organization of the steel, automobile, rubber and like industries is the direct result of the movement launched by the United Mine Workers and the other which joined with it to form the C. I.O. The wave of organization thus started has spread to countless other industries; even where their employes are not yet organized, employers have had to make concessions due to the movement started by the U. M. W. A. and its associated unions. In making this great contribution to the welfare of all American labor and of the whole country, the United Mine Workers have benefited substantially themselves, as reports to the convention indicate. Their union has been bulwarked against the encroachments of in surrounding industries, their own bargaining position has been improved, and have shared in the improved status of American labor gen well-establish- a democracy. And because labor is interested in good government, it is the duty of all honest and liberty loving workers to unite for concerted action through the ballot box. Through united action all of us will reap benefits. Whether you are A. F. L, C. 1. O., Railway Brotherhoods, Workers Alliance, farm laborers, or what not, it should be your concern to unite for political action. The one organization for political purposes is the Labors League. It is an organization of the workers, by the workers and for the workers. Its membership is made UP Cra The United Mine Workers of America also stands out as a I. from all groups of labor. It takes at least that much money $1 1,500 to make a job for a steel worker. Mr. Girdler is probably correct. At any rate, we will take yh his figures for granted. Of course, the amount of money required j to "make a job for a worker varies in the different industries in which the workers in America are employed. In many cases an investment of even $5,000,000 would employ as many workers as would be employed in a $50,000,000 steel plant, A garden free of weeds caused a because of the difference in equipment required and its opera- religious person to commend a Job said: There is a spirit in man and the breath of God giveth them understanding." From 3000 to 25,000 of these cells, which make up tissue in plant, animal and man, could be lined up on one inch of a carpenters pocket ruler. These cells, a gob of jelly with center from which tiny nervelike filaments reach out, eats, feels, works and excretes as does the larger body it helps to make pain-in-the-ne- ck up. If there is trouble in one local union other members go on strike or set up a disturbance until something is done to aid the afflicted group whether they tire in Ogden, Tooele, Provo or Park City. These fellows seem to know where the cut or bruise or poor functioning is going on and rush to the rescue or set up a disturbance until the head of the whole works gives extra assistance. Thus is seen how much can be done independent of the boss and how much can also be done by aid from the conscious mentality.
