In this era of selfish greed and predatory interests and controlled metropolitan dailies, the people of America have one source to which they can look for a fair exposition of problems confronting the people of this nation and that source is the weekly newspaper field. The editors of weekly newspapers have a great responsibility and because of this responsibility, each editor should realize it and take it upon himself to make an unbiased and nonpartisan study of the problems with which the people of his community are confronted. The editor of the weekly paper must realize his responsibility to his readers. In order to fill the responsibile position he holds among his readers he cannot and should not be a hidebound partisan politically. Regardless of his political beliefs, he should treat political questions with tolerance of the views of the other fellow, and above everything else, give first consideration to the readers he reaches. The greatest opportunity for good government in this nation lies with the men and women who are entrusted with the editing and publishing of the weekly newspapers. The editors of weekly newspapers are the real molders of public opinion among the people they reach. d A good, weekly newspaper is an asset to the community. Because it is an asset, it should receive loyal and wholehearted support from the people in the community and county where it is published. An editor of a weekly newspaper should not be compelled to look for support from subversive and outside interests. He should be supported by the community and the county which his publication well-edite- covers. A wide awake editor who realizes his responsibility to his community and readers and, accordingly, devotes time and effort in editing a paper that fills the needs of his readers, no doubt will be looked upon in his community as a leader and real molder of public opinions and accordingly will be afforded financial support to compensate him for the important work he is doing. Above everything else, the editor of a weekly paper should be independent and free to write on subjects that will redound in benefits ' to the greatest number of the people he reaches. At all times, he should do his duty intelligently and without fear or favor to any One group, clique or clan. His efforts should always be for the greatest good of the greatest number.
