If you do this, you will be doing your part to bring about the recovery which is so necessary to people in all walks of life in Amer- ica. , Tells Truths General Hugh S. Johnson, former administrator of the NRA, told truths the other evening when he addressed the American people and charged monopolists with seeking NRAs death. We quote some of his genius: If NRA goes down, a large part of the New Deal goes down with it. The biggest monopolists in the country are leading the attack on NRA. COOPERATION ONE-SIDE- D The Main street gang makes claims of being the friend of labor and wants the cooperation of labor, but only on the gangs own term3. The spokesmen for the chamber of commerce claim to be friends of labor and desire the cooperation of labor but want this cooperation only on the terms of the chamber itself. The lawyer leadership of the present Democrat party m Utan claims to be a friend of labor, and wants labors support, but it does not meet labor on a 0 cooperative basis, not even to the extent of redeeming the party platform pledges. The lawyer leadership of the party wants to dictate the terms of that cooperation. The Democrat administration in Utah, from governor down, gives as friends of labor, and expects labor to give the adminisservice lip whole-hearte- d tration support, without giving consideration to labors problems. Many business men who want to sell their wares to labor claim friendship to labor, but fail to carry union labeled merchandise, or employ union labor. The daily papers of Utah want the patronage of organized labor ; these papers want labor to subscribe and pay good money for their publication, but, at the same time, the publishers and editors fail to cooperate with labor even to the extent of giving favorable publicity for the good things that labor does, but they are alert and always ready to give unfavorable publicity, and make mountains out of mole 50-5- hills. It seems that it is habitual with the various self-seeke- rs who dein- NRA has done more to save the little fellow than anything in twenty years. NRA is the only force in recent years that has checked monopolies and retarded modern economic murder. The extension of the NRA for a few months, with the added burden of necessary code revision made impossibly difficult by sweeping amendments, will simply brin rapid deterioration and disintegration of the whole industrial recovery program. If some of these diplomats should die, there would be many nice things said about them, as friends of labor. In my opinion, the most good for a diplomat would be to bury him face downward, so that when he wiggles, he will get nearer to the hot place and never come back. OLD TIMER. To bring about this better condition, and a cooperative spirit, at times we may have to say harsh things and truthful things to make the selfish interests realize the error of their ways. Doing this, we may, sometimes, have to step on somebodys toes, and hurt somebodys feelings. But, the matter is not personal. It is for the general good and welfare of the whole people. We have the bonus, unemployment, railroad pension, old age pension, and Wagner labor disputes bills. Will justice be done ? In my last contribution to the Utah Labor News, I promised to give you my definition (not Websters) as to what a diplomat is.
