INGRATITUDE Instead of a thankful day One of the basest of all sins we should have a thankful is . - ingratitude. Dr. William L. And eternally more vital than expressing our appreciation for our friends, educators, benefactors and patriots, is that we daily not express our annually gratitude for Him who gave His life' for us, that all who - in Him' shall have eternal life. -- The American Way Features believe STOP ABORTION I'M TOO YOUNG TO DIE! State and local governments don't fare much better, according to recent U.S. Census reports of State Government Finances." In Utah, it is reported that state population increased 17 percent in the past twelve years, while total state spending increased 180 per from $192 million to $545 cent million. Total state taxes in turn increased over 160 per cent, Taxpayers in Utah now pay nearly 40 per cent of their total personal income for city, county, state and federal taxes and are faced with the prospect of paying even more in the future. Change comes only by demand. The alternatives are clear taxpayers must be more prudent in their demands for increased public services and governmental legislators and administrators must determine how to most effectively appropriate and use the limited financial resources available, as determined and based upon sound business principles. Respectfully yours, John E. Smith Former Legislative Council Member Religious Strength Dear Editor: The American Constitution, our civil bihle. Threatened by One World Socialism or Communism" we must exercise our strength in the religious foundation, which is the chief corner stone of our Republic. Our freedoms are an outgrowth of religious conviction and the sacredness of every human life. On the religious side the highest canon of law is the Bible and the Standard Works; on the political, The it is the Constitution. Constitution is the civil bible for all Americans. . During this time of world wide political and social change, it behooves us, as never before, to know and understand the basic principles of the Constitution. It has provided the American People, in times of stress as well as peace, a more enduring government and greater prosperity than any other people in the history of the world. Every elected or appointed commissioned official, every officer, orally affirms true faith and allegiance to the Constitution, also to support and defend it against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Anyone who will read the Constitution shall discover that each clause or word in the Constitution is carefully designed his life, to protect the individual liberty and property. A few evil and corrupt individuals are preaching that the Constitution is a barrier in the way of American progress. When in truth the Constitution is a defense, inspired by God, for free men to protect themselves against the abuse of power by his servants in the Congress. But we must understand and learn how this great document works On Course b v Joe II. Ferguson GAS RATIONING, GAS TAXES AND POLITICIANS WHO IS ROCKING THE BOA 7? It has been said that a politician is one who can rock the boat and convince the people that there is a great storm raging at sea. This should be kept in mind while evaluating the present energy crisis, the cause of it and statements by solutions. politicians proposing There is much evidence to support the charge that the entire fuel shortage was created by the politicians and bureaucrats. The oppressive regulations of the price of d has suppressed exploration and petroleum at the development of new wells. Ridiculous ecology laws have d stymied the construction of additional and refineries. So, all of a sudden, we have a fuel shortage. With the voluminous and ridiculous regulations on fuel production, it would be surprising if we did not have a fuel shortage. Now, what are these politicians are bureaucrats who caused the fuel shortage proposing to do about it? so-call- ed well-hea- badly-neede- MORE TAXES AND MORE CONTROLS The bureaucrat mentality seems to have one answer for any problem: more taxes and more government regulations. Have you ever seen a bureaucrat propose to decrease taxes or remove government regulations to solve a problem? True to form, the bureaucrats are proposing more taxes and more regulations to solve the fuel crisis. Why more taxes on fuel? The answer given by the bureaucrats is to discourage consumption. Well, it probably would. Taxes on anything discourage consumption. But what was the object ofprice controls on fuel? Why, to keep the price down so the people could afford it! So now, we are going to get not only price controls but higher prices as the result of additional taxes, and rationing to boot! low-inco- me ATTITUDE ON WHAT IS THE PRESIDENTS RA TIONING? A key Nixon administration official recently stated that the President Would like us to avoid a rationing system if we could, but most of the senior advisors agree there should be a rationing plan. That tells the story in a nutshell. The President wants us to think he is opposed to rationing, but he appoints the type of advisors who will advise him to impose rationing! It doesnt take a genius to figure out that the President himself is planning to impose rationing and he has been planning to do so all along. WOULD RATIONING AMERICAN PEOPLE? HOW AFFECT THE The effect of rationing is to impose a dictatorship upon the American people. Is this talk too strong? Not at all. Rationing is the very opposite of freedom. Under a free government and free market, the seller and buyer are free-tagree to buy or sell whatever things they legally possess and at whatever price they agree upon. This is the right to make contracts. Under rationing, this right is utterly destroyed.
