Governor Brigham Young July 4, 1854 In view of Brigham Youngs statement above, it becomes is well apparent that the process of this nations underway. Lest the casual reader exclaim that we are disappointed because of the Primary election .results and therefore are unreasonably distraught at this time, we would like to submit some information to back up what we say. That the election results were disappointing, is true. However, if it were simply that our choices did not get elected we would not feel so bad. The reason for our solemn faces is that the things for which our favorites stood were rejected and the things for which their opponents stood were accepted. For example, in voting the way they did, Utah voters have voted in favor of a guaranteed annual income (which will greatly increase their tax burden), further gun controls, public housing, foreign aid, Urban Renewal, War On Poverty programs, funding of self-destructi- on the Planned Parenthood program through the OEO, government encroachment on property rights, increased federal aid to education with its accompanying controls, U.S. aid to Communist countries while we fight, them elsewhere, increased taxation, increased national debt, increased government spending resulting in more inflation, and further wage and price controls over the economy in a supposed effort to control the government-induce- d inflation. Any single one of these items would be bad enough, but all of them together add up to a national disaster. choices between This election offered voters clear-ccandidates who were determined to roll government back to its Constitutional bounds and those who are feverishly working to destroy it and push us into total socialism with its welfare state. If ever there were a time when we needed candidates who would try to restore constitutional government, it is now. The voters of Utah had such an opportunity in this Primary election they have been weighed in the balance and found wanting. ut Independent The Utah Revenue Sharing Will Centralize Government Advocates of Revenue Sharing are touting this scheme as a way to restore power and sovereignty back to the States. Those who say this are either deliberately deceiving the American people or just do not understand government and how it works. The fact is, just the opposite is true. Before the federal government is finally through financing the states and local governments through revenue sharing it will have total control of every state, city, town, and hamlet within the United . States. This is a CONSOLIDATION OF POWER move that will take away every last vestige of local control of government remaining. In speaking of this, Congressman John correctly said on June 21, 1972: is States, the responsibility of local governments, and government responsibility generally. I sincerely believe we will regret the day that we start down the road built by this particular piece of legislation. The bill, in my judgment, is wrong in principle. Once the Federal Government assumes the responsibility of raising the money local governments spend to provide basic services from garbage collection to police protection, we will have completely altered the governmental relationships underlying the success of .... our pluralistic system We talk of this as aiding decentralization of government. How blind can we be? By making our states and 'localities more and more dependent upon Washington, we are centralizing government. As Jenkin Lloyd Jones said: Centralization is that device by which the taxpayer's normal prudence is overcome by bis greed. Revenue sharing is the most insidious type of centralization. It makes the benefits immediate and the burden remote. That is the road on which we embark as we get into Federal Government financing of the general operations of State and local governments. The Senate this week passed the Revenue Sharing bill. We were living in Australia when abortion was made legal. At first the doctors were selling the live fetuses to laboratories for experimentation.. The Humane Society wouldnt tolerate this action and made a fuss over experimenting with humans as mistreating a ' dog or a cat. When this was stopped, they started throwing the bodies in the garbage cans. One garbage collector in Adelaide, Australia heard a noise when he went to pick up a garbage can. He opened it and there was an unborn, aborted baby who was still alive. He rushed it to the hospital and later adopted it. Now the garbage collectors refuse to pick up the garbage from the doctors who .perform abortions. So if abortion is legalized, what are they going to do with the bodies? as-bi- . Keith F. Johnson Orem, Utah P.S. Thank God the Humane Society and the garbage collectors are human.
