J. Reese Hunter On Course JOE H. FERGUSON e McGovern Wins Readers The Right Answers v predict that George McGovern dont care what the polls say, McGovern is going to win! This is being written on the eve of the election, but by the time you read it, the returns will have been in. But even then, you will not be able to really determine the accuracy of the prediction. This will take a few months. Or at least a few weeks. As you will note, I did not predict that McGovern would be elected, but that he would win. If my prediction requires some explanation, here it is. Since Richard Nixon was elected in 1968, he has pushed through some of the most radically socialistic legislation in our history. This has been in spite of Mr. Nixons extreme criticism of LBJ having done the same thing on a smaller scale. Nixon has guided into realization those schemes that Hubert Humphrey could little more than dream about. Since Nixon in the past has so ably Hubert Humphrey, it is logical to assume that he will now proceed to George McGovern. If McGovern had been elected, he would have been about as effective in implementing his programs as Hubert Humphrey would have been. The people see McGovern for what he really is. And they would rise, up and oppose him. This is why George McGovern would never be able to win by elected; He can only win by helping (which he most Then, with Nixon still ably did) get Nixon waving the conservative flag, proceed to usher in a new era of McGovernism. My prediction is that Nixons course will be more spending, more bureaucracy, more aid to the Communists and more broken campaign promises. This will result, of course, in more taxes, more inflation, more socialism, and more destruction of our Constitutional government. Contrary to most who make predictions, I will not be gloating if the above comes true. I will be sorrowing. I am not going to hope that I am right, but that I am wrong. And I will be working harder than practically anyone to prevent the above from coming true. For if it does not come true, it will not be because of the lack of desire on the part of Mr. Nixon to do as predicted but because of the determination of millions of Americans to see to it that he does not. And I am one of them! OuHoolk will win in 1972! I I out-Humphr- out-McGov- Dear Editor: Hi: American Civil Liberties Union employs teams of lawyers who spend most of their time jnd energies defending radicals and Communists. It was created inl920 by Marxist Roger Baldwin, who years ago admitted before a Congressional Committee that he and his organization believe in the violent overthrow of the U.S. Government. Again and again the A.C.L.U. has been cited as subversive by government investigating bodies. It claims to stand for free speech, free press, and free assembly; but it is quite apparent that the main function of the A.C.L.U. is to attempt to protect the Communists in their advocacy of force and violence to overthrow the Government.... Arthur 11. Bremer obviously knew what he was doing when he asked the A.C.L.U. for assistance. He's an A.C.L.U. member himself. you tell us the number of people in this country who are being supported by our federal, state, and local governments in public service? Representative Barber Conable, Jr. (R.-NeYork) offers the following analysis: Of the 70 million people working in this country, one out of six is on a federal, state or local public payroll. In Great Britain its one out of IS. and in Japan, one out of 30. ..those receiving tax money for at least part of their income now outnumber the taxpayers. In 1970 federal, state and local taxes look 34.3 percent of our gross national product, or $333. S hillion. In January of this year, in addition to the one out of six working" for the government, there were reported to be 14.4 million on welfare. Last year the United States a record SI 7.7 billion on welfare payments. Ihis spent represented an increase of nearly $3.3 billion over the previous year. Why the increase? One explanation lies in a letter sent to one Western welfare office asking for payments. Ihe letter actually read: This is my eighth child. What are you going to do about it?
