LET FREEDOM RING! The Constitution of the United States grants to Americans the freedom to worship God, and wc look on any open attack upon our religion as something unpatriotic Such an attack and on Christianity is the imitation rock opera, Superstar, Jesus Christ whose lyrics and music are blasphemous and degrading in the extreme. Written by two English revolutionaries, Tim Rice and Richard Webber, the opera presents a warped version of the last days of Christs life, which is a gross departure from the actual facts. In the play, Christ is portrayed as a frustrated rebel, insecure, unsure of himself, and lacking in manhood. The disciples arc pictured as vainglorious peasants. Receiving honors for their courageous fight against metropolitan government are the mayors of South Salt Lake County communities. Superstar in no way presents the last seven days of the literal biblical Christ, but rather a figment of Rices corrupt imagination. The promoters are guilty of fraudulent advertising because Christ is shown to be anything but a Superstar in the play. It is merely a expression. Local churches and Christians should mount a mass protest' against this comic opera version of the life of Christ. Such blatant tongue-in-chee- k attacks against our Christian religion should not be tolerated, because this production is a gross violation of the principle of freedom of religion, and seeks to undermine the spiritual and moral values of our country.
