Show The Paper That Dares To Take A Stand April 22, 1976 The Utah Independent Page 5 THE E.P. THORNTON COLUMN Several weeks ago I wrote to this effect: I would rather have George Wallace with NO legs than any other SIX of his OPPONENTS". I was thinking of socialist Morris Udall, and of the following members , of the Rockefeller dominated Council on Foreign Relations Mondale, RelationsForeign Birch Walter Bayh, Shriver, Sargent Chappy Kennedy, Hubert Humphrey. And also toothpaste ad, the man who came out of nowhere, grinning Jimmy Carter who is disliked in his own state of Georgia. At the time I wrote I was waiting to see what might clear the air in the dust of the Republican dog fight. Ronald Reagan did it, on Wednesday March 3 1st at 10:30 Eastern time over N.B.C. Reagan had the courage to take on the Rockefeller Eastern establishment. He laid it on the line to a man who has been accused in two best selling books of being a communist or - a Handout Henry Kissinger, a Rockefeller handyman. Reagan told the truth about Helmut Sonnenfeldt, a Kissinger front man and also a member of Rockys club, the Council on Foreign Relations. pro-commun- ist . Reagan said to America, about the communist plan to take over our Panama Canal, It is ours we bought and paid for it and developed it it belongs to us How just as Alaska does. refreshing to hear a truth so simply stated. And how comforting to hear him say that he would NOT disarm you and me and place us at the mercy of a swarm of thieves and thugs, or some uniformed police force put together by the disunited Nations as it strives to destroy our country and make us a subject state in a ONE WORLD GOVERNMENT. Reagan wasn't making a shallow, demagogic talk. Humphrey-styl- e Reagan didn't throw out some cheap votebuying sops to labor, to blacks, to old folks, to young folks. Reagan was talking to ALL OF AMERICA. Shivers must be running up and down the spines of the controlled media, because they have greeted this historic Reagan broadcast with silence that is DEAFENING. Where are we now? Some years ago when a healthy George Wallace was winning hearts and minds, he was felled by an assassins bullet. The liberal media has made the most of.it, and America may now be buying the idea that physically Wallace hasn't arm-wavi- ng . enough left. He certainly is not being defeated by any ideas coming from Jimmy Carter, because Carter hasnt expressed any. Besides it appears that the Democrats are so unnerved by the prospect of having to defeat a Republican with ANY of the present crop of candidates that they are now desperately dragging up old Hubert Humphrey, socialist KING OF HASBEENS. This year in South Carolina delegates were picked by caucus rather than by primary. The Machine (those now entrenched in office) made the rules. In Myrtle Beach there was little advance notice of the precinct meeting places. I was misdirected on the phone to a gymnasium. There a youngster playing basketball told me The place has been changed to the municipal auditorium. I had about ten minutes leeway, and along with several other misdirected groups I made the caucus deadline. The assembled voters were divided into three precinct groups by drawing curtains that subdivided one large room into three smaller ones. Carter, Wallace and Udall were on the ballot. But of those AMAZINGLY, 40 present were UNCOMMITTED. A light dawned. The word must have been passed along that our state would send delegates UNCOMMITTED. to the National Convention. The courthouse gang led the move. And now we see old socialist Humphrey (on the surface opposed to Rockefeller but actually a member of Rockys CFR club) steadily being pushed to the front. Carter is being used to kill off Wallace. For the fun of it, I predict that Humphrey will be the Democratic nominee. If a gullible public nominates Rockefeller and Kissinger (Ford is merely a front for them) then we will be voting heads you win, tails I lose, and Rockys club, the FOREIGN COUNCIL ON RELATIONS, will Pods Affective Education Erma J. Christensen A CORNER ON EDUCATION Erma J. Christensen Inasmuch as this writer received a call from a town in Utah County, Nebo School District from a concerned parent who sees the Social Studies pervading those schools, we will fasten our attention on the same subject this week. It is a subject not too many people understand fully, and all of us need to have knowledge of its purpose so as to counteract these studies coming into the schools of Utah. I received from one of our NCEE affiliates the following written by the Superintendent of Schools, South St. Paul, Minnesota, some of whose quotes follow: There are more and more concerns and questions being registered today regarding the questionable results and the true intent of Sensitivity Training, as well as its germaneness to the goals and objectives of public education, the training of educators, and the learning experiences of student. ...definitions of Sensitivity Training (sources furnished upon com-municati- and personal matters, and opinions, values, beliefs; andor to act out emotions and feelings toward one another in the group, using the techniques of and mutual criticism. Powells letter that we did not find room for in this column last week. Save these lists because they name the programs that are indeed sensitivity training, and are actually the Social Studies which are coming into Utah Schools with a on Reagan and Wallace, two strong men who are not owned by the Eastern Establishment. Mr. Parsky called for a reduction in government spending, the elimination of deficits, and avoidance of wage-pric- e guidelines of any kind. He said, .We must lift the heavy hand of government regulations that is threatening to strangle the free enterprise system. The comment from the Secretary of the Treasury and one of his chief assistants is sound and refreshing. If the Congress and the nation would heed it we would soon be on the road to full employment and prosperity. No person can be a great leader unless he takes genuine joy in the successes of those under him. on The prime concern in education today is NOT to impart knowledge, but to change attitudes so that children can willingly accept a controlled society..." Following are a few excerpts from Learning the Magazine for Creative Teaching, that seem to 'parallel the foregoing material on sensitivity training: Proceedings on Fuzzy Asliberties Personal sumptions: aside, the case that Affective Educators (emotional attitude changers) must frequently make for their own programs is a shaky is not always a one. happy experience, and a change in is not always a change for the better. In an Oregon classroom a boy whos been living with his grandparents since his .mother deserted him, talks about his worries. Finally, in a Self-awarene- ss self-conce- pt circle he says the session, His does not mother unspeakable! love him. In a panic, for solution, the teacher creates a fantasy. Why program designers assume a high correlation between and adjustment to school is hard to understand. Many teachers would agree with the one who noted: 1 know that its important for kids to get skills in cooperating in any setting, but in many classrooms, I think it may be the SANE kids who are rebelling and the CRAZY ones who are conforming. Any number of studies co-auth- or self-conce- pt have shown that successful adjustment to an institutional setting like school requires qualities that are quite DIFFERENT from, and often at odds with those that serve g, well in coping as a independent individual in the out-sic- k free-thinkin- world. In all reality, does it matter when? Oh, 1 know, we put off the inevitable until the last possible moment. But, lets look at the big picture. Billions of us are born we spend a short period here then we're gone. Ive seen plaques and statues in public places dedicated to the memory of a person who obmeant something to viously someone at a previous time. But, as I gaze at the remembrance, it occurs to me that its dusty and dirty and not one person in a hundred cares. So, as far as our stay here is concerned, why do we fuss so much? Why do we struggle for heights, and monetary values? Is it to leave a better place for those who follow us? Why do the communists fight for their cause with so much zeal? Why do they willingly give up their lives yet feel that death is the end of it all? Why cant we just relax, none of us will get out alive. Why not live and let live? Why does Rockefeller want more money? He couldn't possibly spend what he has now. Why wont iron curtain countries allow anyone to leave? What harm could they possibly do to anyone by leaving? Is it because we have a built-i- n destruct system or do we have an uncontrollable desire to play God? Or is it just possible that there are two powerful outside forces in a death struggle over us, the inhabitants of planet Earth? If so, it doesn't look as though we will have to wait long for the finale. If the bomb doesnt get us, population explosion will. Statistically speaking, the end is near for at least most of us. Now, the question is do we go down with a whimper or do we go down with a bang?
