J. Reese Hunter LIBERTY AMENDMENT Willis E. Stone, National Chairman LIBERTY AMENDMENT COMMITTEE OF THE U.S.A. OUTLOOK of your paper of November 28, 1974 you published a letter from Mrs. Ardette R. McLaughlan in answer to one from Mr. Mark Alley of New York. I have no idea what started the whole thing, but do feel compelled to comment, particularly as the intent and purposes of the LIBERTY AMENDMENT were so sadly twisted by Mrs. McLaughlans letter, although she did, in effect, support every facet of the LIBERTY AMENDMENT in her letter. Mrs. McLauchlan begins by stating that she supports repeal of the 16th (Income Tax) Amendment, and then she explains her reasons and in doing so cites the purposes of the LIBERTY AMENDMENT, although, as she says, she is no longer an enthusiastic worker for the LIBERTY AMENDMENT. Mrs. McLauchlan asserts that Neither can I believe that repealing the Sixteenth Amendment will restore the Constitution to full force and effect. Neither do the advocates of the LIBERTY AMENDMENT. The fact is that repeal of the Sixteenth Amendment is the final function the fourth and last element within the LIBERTY AMENDMENT. It is the end result of doing the necessary things to cut the federal invasions of private property and earning, and the elimination of the corrupt spending of government in areas not in any way authorized by the Constitution. The first three sections of the LIBERTY AMENDMENT removes government from areas usurped from the states and the people, causes the sale of lands (about 40 percent of the land area of the nation) and the enterprises (about 20 percent of the industrial capacity of the nation) back to the states and the people from whom they were taken. That is the function of the third In 1 section. The second section provides against the whimsical taking of lands, enterprises or anything else from the Continued on page 3 J The ODM Utah's Largest and 57 Fastest-Growin- Oakland Avenue 25$ each 12 for $2.75 12 for $1.00 25 for $5.00 50 for $9.00 Subscriptions: USA $10.00 per year Foreign $15.00 per year The Name 100 for $17.50 UTAH INDEPENDENT 1 (First) (Last) (Middle) Address L: (Number And Street) (City) (Stav) Way, Baby (Zip Code) . . . To illustrate what they can expect, witness what is happening in the State of Maryland . . . one of the states that have already ratified the 1 amendment. The Maryland Attorney General has made a list of 227 laws which will have to be repealed or changed due to the passage of the ERA. For example, under ERA a wife is liable for the support of her husband and his debts. Also, one of the bills makes women automatically part of the State Militia. needs. I land speculator, noram affiliated with any group I simply am a home owner in Utah County at Springville. Recently 1 went to the library and picked up a copy of the 1974 Utah County Land Plan and read it. In studying this plan I became aware that it will affect every person and every bit of ground in Utah County. It tends to take away our rights to determine locally what's best for us locally. Im not against zoning, but believe it should be kept where we can have an effectives' oice in each important matter. This plan starts off by comparing the plan of Joseph Smith's and Brigham City of Zion Youngs State of Deseret (which they state was from border to border, and is an incorrect statement). They use these examples to justify their plan which is not based on the same principles nor the same needs. The church leaders are against the very' thing I am against, i.e. governmental con-Itrof our life and the stifling of free agency through control of private property. Whenever a case is stated for righteous principles using religious doctrine to defend government interference, the cry goes up separation of Church and State, hut when it can be used to political advantage nothing is said. This plan has got to be a people planners dream to be able to put everything in total and perfect order. From designating I the farm land for only those that will receive 90rf of their livingfrom it. to restrictions of anyone living in the mountains w'ith so many restrictions that they wont live there, to planning entire new towns and submitting the plans for approval before any building begins in the area, to stopping the growth of a city and keeping it at a designated level, to being able to build in only specified areas (we in Springville can build on the bench and to the south on the alkali fields) to the organizing of each city into neighborhood groups with a leader to report to the city leaders anv would be better off unequal. A result of the Equal Rights Amendment is that women will be lowered to the level of their counterparts in the Soviet Union. It suggests are still the mold our to society trying along Russian lines so the two countries could be more easily tied together. If the United States can be further developed along Soviet lines, it will give the Rockefellers wide open trade opportunities . . . meaning more dollars in their banks. As in the case of any unpopular, undermining law, the Equal Rights Amendment proponents are trying to get the law enacted before the dangers become apparent. To aid them in their final push, a d Washington, D.C., political consulting firm plans dollar cama quarter-millio- n paign to put political pressure on state legislatures. Two states that had ratified the amendment took a second look and didnt like what they saw, so decided to rescind it. However, it may be the too late for them Supreme Court very possibly . might not allow the reversal. It is certain the Equal Rights Amendment wouldnt have gotten very far if the American public had been if the given the facts of told had been the people dangers it presents to the family unit and to the American society. Unless the silent majority in those states that have not ratified the amendment take drastic action, this revolutionary law will become the 27th Amendment to our Constitution. If your state has not yet ratified the amendment, act before it is too late. Contact your state legislators and urge them to defeat it. Raiders comments are welhigh-price- ... ...
