M amity, and Tntk tEdifoirs Outlook July 1, 1970 will be a day that will live in infamy. That was the day when the most liberal abortion law in the country went into effect in New York state. On tliat day an unofficial count showed that 145 abortions were performed in 42 hospitals tliroughout the state. That figure would have been larger except for a strike threat by hospital em- ployees. Because of this, many institutions refused to accept abortion bookings. Abortion, the 600 ABORTIONS A DAY of Death J, Reese Hunter It is ironic that the medical profession, which ordinarily is dedicated to the preservation of life, has now turned its attention to the business of death. It is equally ironic that those who cry out for the elimination of the death penalty for convicted murderers as a cruel and unusual punishment, have been in the forefront of the battle to take the lives of the least offending of all forms of intelligent life an unborn human. These helpless innocents cannot cry out in protest, cannot hire legal counsel to help them get the basic Constitutional right to life, cannot look to their parents for help of any kind. No power on earth can help them to ever see the light of day because they have no friends. So called Population Control experts and Planned Parenthood societies have declared open warfare on the unborn and essentially have labelled them public enemy No. 1. Doctors, who formerly helped them on their way in life, have now become their executioners. Parents, who formerly looked upon children as a blessing, now see them as a curse. The State, which formerly regarded its business as that of protecting all human lives, has now legislated itself the power to form a partnership between parent, state, and doctor to legalize murder. This newly formed alliance will put to shame the infamous gangland murder for profit organization known as Murder, Inc. How do these innocents fare in our own state of Utah? Saturday, July 10th, 1970, to its everlasting shame, the Democrat Party of Utah in its state convention passed a resolution w hich, in effect endorses the legalization of abortion in the state of Utah. The greatest shame of all, however, is the fact that in the Party of Calvin Hampton, Frank Moss. Gunn McKay, and Keith Melville, not one voire of protest was heard us this evil measure was adopted as the program of the Democrat Party. We-- of the Utah Independent, look upon abortion as an act against nature and God. We deplore t lie action of those Utahns of the Democrat Parly who have won the disupproxul of God by disregarding one of Ilis great commandments, Thou Shalt Not Kill. We call upon all respon.ible Democrats of Utah to repudiate tin decision of the Convention on abortion ami to demand that this resolution lx; rescinded. , EMBRACES SOCIALISM Organizational control has developed into a big thing in our modern society. Get a man to belong to an organization, give that organization pow er over the man, get control of the and then the man can be controlled. rI his is the organization n dilemma faced by the uxerage medical doctor in private practice today. Tin; medical organization originally designed as a protection for the individual doctor was given power by its members that could virtually determine the life or death of the individual medical doctors practice. Future estimates reveal that 100.000 New York women and 500.000 out of staters, taking advantage of the no residency requirement, will seek abortions annually. Tlius, this legal murder will help boost the economy of New York with a new type of tourist trade. The medical society has recommended a S100 to $150 charge for outpatient abortions and between S200 to $250 for inpatient procedures. According to these estimates medical doctors in New York will receive $60,000 to 5 150.000 per day in the abortion mill. This is a very lucrative practice indeed. Blue Cross of New York has said it will pay up to $250 for married or single women receiving abortions in hospitals. Utah Demos THE COST OF DOING BUSINESS IS HIGH Bishopville (S.C.) Lee County Messenger It takes lots of patience and knowhow these days to stay in business. The governmental red tape and regulations are mounting higher and higher and the cost of doing business is getting greater and greater. There can be but one end if this keeps up operation of everything by a benevolent government and the downfall of this same government. MCCARTHY'S RULE Goshen (Ind.) News Sen. Eugene McCarthy, the Minnesota Democrat, has been quoted correctly, we presume, while walking out of the Senate chamber while one of his colleagues was quoting the U.S. Constitution. I have a rule, McCarthy said. Anyone who quotes the Bible, the Constitution or Senate rules in debate, I vote against him. All of which clears up the reasons for McCarthys wrong vote on so many issues. Wonder if hed have favored rewriting the Bible, the Constitution and the Senate rules if he had been elected president? The Independent Favor Abortion Continued from Paqe To The Coratrtutior liberty. Morality, and Truth Published twice each month, on the second and fourth Fridays. 1 Secretary of State Clyde L. Miller tried unsuccessfully to get the convention not to include Gateway support in the platform, lie felt that not many understood the amendment and would rather listen to more dialogue on the issue. The Convention also voted for more federal aid to education: a state minimum wage law for both men and women; and, continued support for allowing the 18 year olds to vole. In considering the Vietnam War the student delegates wanted to insert a deadline of June I, 1971 for the removal of U. S. military' forces in .Southeast Asia. However, the deadline was voted down and the plank on Vietnam calls for the immediate withdrawal of all military personnel from Southeast Asia in such a way that it does not endanger SEND CHANGE P O OF ADDRESS FORMS 90X 6274 AND SALT LAKE CITY TELEPHONE CORRESPONDENCE UTAH 84105 484-43- 39 J.
