Wheadon, surprised the ladies very pleasantly by serving dainty and tempting refreshments in in great variety. After an exceedingly pleasant afternoon, the Club adjourned to meet next Wednesday afternoon with Mrs. Hasmer. . The Cleofan. Tuesday afternoon, the Cleofan was entertained by Mrs. May P. Moyle, who gave an interesting address on Effects of the English Bible on Literature; she interestingly reviewed the history of the manuscript writings of the Bible, and showed clearly its great influence on the formation of the English language, and its early effects upon the people. The address was given in a pleasing and entertaining manner. After recess, Mrs. Emma What J. McVickers paper on Womens Clubs have done for Educawas read by Mrs. Lana S. tion, Savage. A general discussion then followed on subjects for next years works. After the business pertaining the club was disposed of, the meeting adjourned for one week to meet at the club room. The Musical Entertainment given on Thursday afternoon by the Directors of the Orphans Home, at the spacious residence of Mrs. Franklin S. Richards, was a flattering success in every way. The large parlors and reception hall were filled with guests, and the program was a varied and excellent one. The best talent of the city delighted the audience with songs and stories. Miss Allie Miller rendered in a very pleasing manner a piano solo; The Flatterer, by Chaminade. Then followed a recitation from James Whitcomb Riley, by Miss Miss Cohn sang Leona Pratt. Jewel of Asia, which was greatly Mr. McCarroll gave a enjoyed. humorous recitation. Mr. Brigham There sang in his charming way, Little Girl Dont Cry, which was review. warmingly applauded, and for an en- core he sang, Sleep Kentucky Belle. Mrs. Kate Bridewell Anderson, sang the Polanaise, from Mignon, in a style that elicited much praise. Mr. Kinslow Smith varied the program with Jacks the Boy for Me, and an encore, Im the Swellest Thing in Town, both of which were very warmly received. The program was concluded with a lullabye, sung by Mrs. Plummer in her excellent style. Between the numbers the guests moved about making the afternoon very informal. Ewing was the chairman of the entertainment committee, and served the coffee in the supper room. She wore a pretty gown of peau de soie and chiffon. Her assistants were Mrs. Fenton, Mrs. Terry, Misses Webber, Ethelyn Webber, Lawrence and Spear. The auditorium was decorated with palms and cut plants, and inviting cosy corners were arranged on either side the platform. In the supper room white carnations and smilax made the daintiest floral decorations; green and white being the club colors.
