" .. . r' i NOVI 3 Farm Bu reauDay Sept. 1st At Annual Utah State Fair Utah citizens will begin to flock to the annual State Fair on August 26. The Fair is opening earlier this year, usually coming about the middle of September. Perhaps those responsible for selecting the dates of the Fair remember two years ago when it snowed all day on Farm Bureau Day. The 1967 Fair runs from August 26 through September 4. Farm Bureau Day will be Friday, September 1. The annual Farm Bureau Talent Find will take place on that date. Newspaper clippings coming in from over the state indicate that some excellent talent contests have been conducted by many County Farm Bureaus and that the 1967 Talent Find will Include a large number of top notch performers. This years Talent Policy Development Meetings Planned Representative Sherman P. Lloyd spoke to the Millard County Farm summer outing, Aug. 12. Mr. Lloyd Bureau at their that red out meat pointed imports are a growing problem and noted that though comparitively small in regard to total production, "it's enough to take the bloom off prices. Addressing the problem of grazing on the public lands, the Congressman pointed out that livestockproducerswillhaveto change tactics from complaining to action. "You're going to have to go to the enabling legislation, decide how you want it changed and make those recommendation to your lawmakers." While not guaranteeing positive results, the Congressman indicated that this was the only realistic approach to the problem of reduced grazing allotments. "You can't blame the Forest Service or the BLM", Mr. Lloyd said, "they're only carrying out the intent of the original legislation." Hamburgers fried by "Big Jim" Nickle made a hit with those attending the outing, as did selections from winners of the County Talent Find. ed Olaf George Named As Marketing Service Head vice-preside- nt Every Farm Bureau member has an equal right to a voice in the development of Farm Bureaus policies on public issues. Experience teaches us that many will not take advantage of this privilege, but it is the purpose of the Farm Bureau leaders at all levels to provide the opportunity. In keeping with this objective, a series of district meet- -. ings has been planned for trainin ing Policy Development activity. Together with the Policy Development programs will be workshop sessions on membership, information, natural resources and the Farm Bureau Womens program. Conducting the workshop sessions will be members of the Farm Bureau staff and disof the trict representatives Farm Bureau Womens Committee. The series of meetings is scheduled to begin September 6 in Logan for Box Elder, Cache and Rich Counties. September 7 the meeting will take place in Weber County in the Wilson church. This session will include Davis, Morgan, Summit and Weber Counties. September 13 and 14 will see sessions in Richfield and Panguitch. The counties included in the meeting at Richfield are Juab, Millard, Sanpete, Sevier, and Wayne. Those at Panguitch I ICE CAPADES I are Beaver, Garfield, Kane, Iron, Piute and Washington Counties. The following format will be followed in all meetings. It is vitally important that each county be represented by policy development, membership, Information, natural resources, and Womens Committee representatives. 7:30 p.m. Call to order -chairman. Find program will again be held at the Riverside Stake Center, just 12 block east of the main entrance to the Fair. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. and the Junior Division directed by Mrs. Melvin HUlyard, open to boys and girls up to and including 10 years, will start off at 10:00 a.m. First place winner in this division will receive $15, second place $10 and third place $7.50. The Intermediate Division under Mrs. Don Allen is scheduled to begin at 11:15 a.m. Prizes for this contest are the same as in the Junior Division. The Senior Division under Mrs. Paul Nelson will begin at 1:00. First place winners here will receive an paid trip to participate in the Talent Find program in Chicago, Illinois, at the American Farm Bureau Convention in December.
