Carroll It has been about a year since many of the Farm Bureau women registered as students for a defensive driving instructors course sponsored by the Utah Farm Bureau Insurance Company. Since this time, many of these graduates of this course have given local defensive driving courses. Defensive (hiving is important in saving lives, reducing property damage and could be a factor in reducing your insurance rates. The National Safety Council recently published the following figures involving all accidents and accidents: two-vehic- le all about. Applicants from all over the state were received. There were so many that it was not possible to make a final decision at the summer conference. The judges reviewed them again more closely and finally made their decision. The winning entry expressed the thought that women are the spark plugs of Farm Bureau, a very appropriate and significant title for the womens page. The entry that won was found to be submitted by Elda Hillyard of Smithfield. When she was contacted about winning she would not accept the barbecue grill that was the prize. She said that as a member of the Utah Farm Bureau Womens Committee she could not accept it. She appreciated very much the consideration given her application but that she was returning the barbecue grill to Farm Bureau for use as a future contest prize or fa purposes to the choosing of Farm Bureau. Organized labor is, having an impact on farm economy and restrictive legislation has created force and change. Our tyeme for 71 Opportunities for Involvement adopted at the national convention has surely seen our Utah Farm Bureau Women involved. Our Fish Lake conference was geared to involve us not only in our womens programs, Defensive Driving, our Food is a Good Buy, presenting our books, Food from Farm to Home and many others, but refers to all Farm Bureau women in the organization. Women must be informed and must .take an active part. The Summer Conference at Fish Lake provided leadership training that will help vis inform, and stimulate women in the role that is so vital today. Environment most informative yet held. It is apparent that you are ready to attack these problems' with a more positive attitude than many outside of agriculture. . Our contest to name the womens page was a real success. . Weber Women Hear How Bureau Helps a The was the location for a June workshop in Ogden. The workshop was attended by about 80 women from' throughout the county. How Farm Bureau helps women in every way and how women in return can use Chuck-A-Ram- Farm Bureau was underlying message of the confab. Taylor Local was in charge of decorating the tables with beautiful candles and holders. Hooper had the Notion tables consisting of specialty home made articles. Donna Stewart, Sheryl Wayment and Frandne Johnson presented a skit dealing with food bargains. Comparison buying tips were given by Lois Tebbs. Color and You" was the theme of Maurine Smiths delightful talk. Phyllis Shaw gave some sketches from her family life and the group was entertained with music by Mildred and Mary Kay during the luncheon break. With all the workshop training out of the way the county in a rather late hour received an invitation to build a float for the Pioneer Parade July 24. Quick action and a lot of work put together a float carrying Miss weber county (Jan Buck) and her attendants. The colors were beautiful purple crimson and pink. None could have guessed the float hid a hay wagon, a layer of straw and bales of hay. In fact it was chosen 2nd place. Carrot Cake 2 cups Sugar Vz 2 2 3 cups Wesson Oil Teaspoon soda Teaspoon Cinnamon Cups finely grated carrots 1 4 2 Vz Vz - package (3 oz.) chopped pecans eggs cups teaspoon salt teaspoon, all-purpo- se all-spi- flour , ce Dump all ingredients into a large bowl and beat the devil out of it. Pour into a 13 inch size pan and bake at 350 degrees for 45 or 50 minutes. When cake is cod, frost as follows: Soften i large package (8 oz.) cream cheese. Add 1V4 cup powdered sugar; 2 teaspoons butter and 1 teaspoon vanilla. Beat until soft and creamy. You may have to add a little more sugar to make it just right to spread.
